The difference between diversion island and safety island

According to their functions, traffic islands can be divided into three categories: diversion islands, separation islands and safety islands.

The isolation belt can play the role of waiting for warning, reminding drivers that there is an intersection ahead, and can also adjust the traffic near the intersection. These separate islands can bring many benefits when controlling left-turn vehicles and providing separate right-turn lanes at intersections. Separation islands at intersections are usually used to separate the opposite traffic flow of four-lane or large-lane roads, especially two-lane roads that can be widened. In some cases, narrow roads can also be used. Intersection or curve widening at the tangent point of the curve will cause the feeling of linear distortion. At this time, using the isolation belt, you can use the bend to divert water without the reverse bend.

Provide shelter space for pedestrians. Pedestrian safety islands are set near crosswalks or non-motor vehicle lanes to provide help and protection when pedestrians and non-motor vehicles cross. The traffic island, central diversion island and separation island at the corner can be used as safety islands. Safety islands can make pedestrians and non-motor vehicles cross wider roads to help public transport passengers transfer or facilitate wheelchair users. Safety islands are generally long or triangular, and are generally located where vehicles do not need to occupy their tracks. In rural or urban areas, many traffic islands can be used as pedestrian safety islands according to their types and location functions.
