Screenwriter Ying and director Li Pingqian once went to the Suzhou countryside to experience life, and through their observation of the countryside and contact with the farmers, they developed a desire to make a movie. The Year of Plenty was censored by the film censorship authorities, and the end of the movie was given a tail that went against the author's original intention: after the peasants started their struggle against the landlords, the "officials" came out to say that both sides should "not go to extremes," which greatly distorted the theme of the movie.
