Qi Diao began in Yongle period of Ming Dynasty and reached a high level in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty. At that time, the folk Qi Diao workshops in Beijing began to rise, among which "Follow the Ancient Zhai" was the most famous, and their "Fairy Birthday" screen won the gold medal in Panama Expo. Beijing carved lacquer has the characteristics of simple and solemn modeling, exquisite decoration, smooth and deep color, moisture resistance, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance, no deformation and no deterioration. It is not only practical, but also has ornamental value. Together with Hunan Xiang embroidery and Jingdezhen porcelain, it is called "the three great forces of China art".

Its process is complex, and it needs to go through seven major processes, such as tire making, land making, painting, carving, lining and polishing, and more than 50 small processes/kloc-0. And mainly by manual operation, the products are: imitation bronzes, three-dimensional animals, ancient buildings, and some daily necessities such as paint boxes, paint bottles, paint screens and so on. Today, there are thousands of kinds of carved lacquer in Beijing. Besides further enriching the tradition in craftsmanship, the arts and crafts artists Du, Du and Du also borrowed the "carving and cutting" techniques of tooth and jade, and made bold innovations. After years of study and practice, they finally added a new technique to the flat carving and bas-relief techniques that have remained unchanged for many years-holding carving, and "Flower Basket Plate" is their masterpiece. The knife technique of the work is skillful and free, the flower and leaf structure are clearly explained, the layers are rich, the integrity and composition are appropriate, and the monochromatic cinnabar is calm and elegant. They also inlaid ivory, jade, gold and silver on the carved lacquer, making the art of carved lacquer more colorful.

At present, Beijing carved lacquer has been exported to more than 90 countries and regions in the world and enjoys a high reputation internationally.
