The Mongolian edition of the Journal of Inner Mongolia University was founded in September 1959, which is one of the earliest university journals in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The original editor-in-chief of the journal was Mr. Qinggertai, a famous linguist and doctoral supervisor, who is now a professor at Inner Mongolia University. The journal was suspended for 11 years during the "Cultural Revolution", but resumed publication in 1977, and was established as a quarterly journal in 1984 for public circulation at home and abroad in 1985. The journal after nearly half a century of wind and rain, in October 2001, ushered in the 100th commemorative number, from 2003 onwards changed to a bimonthly publication, which in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is the first Mongolian literary newspaper, in the national minority text version of the academic journals is also in a leading position.

The journal mainly publishes academic papers written in Mongolian by teachers and students of Inner Mongolia University, and a small number of foreign manuscripts with novelty, characteristics and high academic quality. According to the characteristics of Mongolian language teaching and scientific research in Inner Mongolia University, the journal has always insisted on taking Mongolian studies and northern minority studies as the main direction, focusing on national and local characteristics and taking into account other disciplines of social sciences. Since its inception, the journal has always carried out the party's "two hundred policy" and the direction of serving the people and socialism, and has made an important contribution to the improvement of the level of Mongolian studies at the University of Inner Mongolia.

The journal always puts the academic quality and academic level of the papers in the first place, no matter whether it is an appointment or a free manuscript, and treats the manuscripts equally when reviewing them, adheres to the principle that everyone is equal in front of the quality, and strictly selects the manuscripts, and puts the quality of the manuscripts on a good level. The editorial board members and advisors of the journal are the academic leaders of the related disciplines of the university, and they are experts and scholars who enjoy the reputation in the field of Mongolian studies. When dealing with manuscripts, we always insist on the combination of expert review and editorial review, and strictly abide by the triple review system. Many of the papers published in the journal have new ideas, some have new information, and some utilize new methods or open up new research fields. Many papers are not only of high academic level, but also of strong ideological and scientific nature. The vast majority of papers published in the journal can represent the academic level of the relevant disciplines, reflect the research frontiers and research hotspots of the discipline, and play a promotional role in the research of the discipline.

With the development of the society and the deepening and expanding of Mongolian studies in the world, the journal has set up additional columns of Mongolian chemistry, religion, ethnic theory, folklore, archaeology, philosophy, economics, law, journalism and publishing, study of Mongolian secret history, study of Mongolian studies in foreign countries, and information on Mongolian studies on the basis of original columns of Mongolian language and writing, Mongolian literature, and Mongolian history.

In recent years, it has opened more than 30 columns such as Academic Controversy, Young Teachers' Forum, and Selected Graduate Theses of Postgraduates, etc., which have played a good role in promoting the depth and broadening the research field of Mongolian studies.

The journal has formed a strong author team combining the old, the middle-aged and the young. They are distributed in the faculties and departments of the School of Mongolian Studies, the Research Center of Mongolian Studies, the School of Ethnology and Sociology, the School of Law, the School of Humanities and the School of Public **** Management of Inner Mongolia University. Taking the College of Mongolian Studies as an example, there are 128 researchers in the college, including 74 full and associate professors, 22 doctoral supervisors, and 57 master's supervisors. Such a structure of researchers not only guarantees the source of manuscripts for the journal, but also improves the academic quality of the journal.

The journal not only attaches great importance to the quality of manuscripts used in the publication, but also attaches great importance to the quality of arrangement and editing, so it enjoys a high reputation in the field of Mongolian studies both at home and abroad. 1990 won the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Outstanding Periodicals Award; 1996, 2002 won the North China five provinces, cities and autonomous regions Outstanding Periodicals Award; 1999, 2002 was named the National Outstanding Social Science Newspaper; In 2001, in the 1999, 2000 and 2001 sampling inspections of editing quality of books, newspapers and magazines in the whole region organized by the Press and Publication Bureau of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the journal was awarded the "Excellence in Editing Quality", which was the only journal in the whole region to be awarded with this honor; in 2001, the State Press and Publication General Administration of the People's Republic of China conferred on it the "Double-Effect Journal". In September 2004, it was honored as "The First Northern Excellent Periodical Award", in January 2005, it was honored as "The Third National Periodical Award for 100 Key Periodicals", and in February 2005, it was honored as "The Third National Periodical Award for 100 Key Periodicals". The journal has formed a combination of old, middle-aged and young editorial team, with a high level of education. Because of the publication to do a colorful and effective, the editorial staff of the journal also won the national and regional "advanced individual" and "excellent editor" award.

In 2007, the journal successfully joined the "China Mongolian Periodicals Network".
