"For a Sentence" is co-produced by Beijing Shangpin Jiasuo Film and Culture Co. Adapted from Liu Zhenyun's work "A Sentence is Worth Ten Thousand Sentences," the period drama is directed by Pang Hao, written by Song Fangjin, and starring Xin Boqing, Li Xuejian, and Zhu Yuanyuan in the lead roles.

Set in Yanjin, Henan Province in the 1930s, the drama begins with three minor characters to tell a story that reflects a thousand years of loneliness among Chinese people. The drama was broadcast on December 2, 2015 on CCTV 8 sets.

Synopsis

In the 1930s in the Central Plains. In the 1930s, the village of Lianli is home to a reasonable man named Yang Baishun (Xin Boqing), who is known as Baishun, but is not good at anything. He grinds tofu, kills pigs, dyes cloth, and carries water. Yang Baishun is unable to get anywhere, but only Lao Zhan (Xu Asia), a foreign priest who shaves his head, and the widow Wu Xiangxiang (Zhu Yuanyuan) understand him.

Yanjin organizes a big social fire, and Baishun's outstanding performance makes him famous, winning the heart of Qin Manqing (Xu Jingyao), the daughter of the headmaster of the new school in Yanjin. The difference in status makes it difficult for the lovers to be united. Qin Manqing is forced to marry Gao Deling (Yang Demin), the ruthless new police chief, while Yang Baishun joins the family of the widow Wu Xiangxiang. Xiangxiang's lover Luo Wu (Shen Hang) learns of the marriage in prison, and kills a policeman and escapes to frame Yang Baishun for the crime, and from then on, Baishun and Luo Wu are on their own.
