Nanjing traditional folk customs 100 words

Painting and calligraphy

Nanjing is an important city of calligraphy and painting in China. During the Six Dynasties, there were great painters such as Wang Xizhi and Gu Kaizhi. In the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, there were eight schools in Jinling: Gong Xian, Fan Yin, Gao Cen, Zou Ji, Wu Hong, Ye Xin, Hu Zao and Xie Xun. And nine sons of Jinling-Dong Qichang, Wang Shimin and Yang Longyou. Famous painters such as Xu Beihong, Zhang Daqian, Yan,,, Gao, Pan and Pang Xunqin gathered in Nanjing in A.D. 1930, and they were called "Three Heroes of Jinling" together with Xu Beihong, Zhang Shuqi and Liu Zigu. There are 12 famous Nanjing painters and calligraphers in modern calligraphy and painting circles, including Fu Baoshi, Liu Haisu, Chen Zhifo, Qian Songyan, Yaming, Song Wenzhi, Wei Zixi and Chen Dayu. In the middle and late 20th century, the "New Jinling Flower and Bird School" such as Zhao, Zhao, Zhang also appeared in Nanjing.
