The Inheritance Significance of Beijing Embroidery
Beijing embroidery has three outstanding points: first, it has a unique position, and some patterns are not allowed to be used by other embroidery species, such as the twelve chapters on the dragon robe and the golden dragon pattern with five claws, which can only be used by the emperor (the four claws are pythons, and it is suspected of usurping the throne if used wrongly). Second, the design theme is wide: landscape flowers and birds, dragon and phoenix patterns, birds and beasts, auspicious eight treasures and so on. Moreover, it pays more attention to the meaning of auspiciousness in application, and there are interesting "oral colors" everywhere. The so-called "the picture must be intentional and the pattern must be auspicious." Third, the court has a strong artistic style, gorgeous decoration and precious materials. Some key parts of embroidery are decorated with agate, jade and other precious stones. Beijing embroidery is mainly used in costumes of Beijing opera, ancient costumes and film and television dramas, especially traditional Beijing opera costumes, 80% of which are embroidery.
