A year's tuition at a martial arts academy costs about $6,000. A better school is the Chinese Wushu Academy.

The predecessor of the Chinese Wushu Academy of Beijing Sport University, the Wushu Department, was founded in August 1958, and was renamed the Chinese Wushu Academy (Chinese National Traditional Sports Research Institute) in December 2018, with two brands in one institution.

Currently, the academy undertakes the task of cultivating high-quality, complex and elite talents at multiple levels for undergraduate, master's, doctoral, high-level athletes and international students specializing in wushu and traditional national sports.

There are 37 full-time teachers in the college, including 9 professors, 14 associate professors, 5 doctoral supervisors, 8 international-level referees and 15 national-level referees. There are 674 students, including 527 undergraduates, 147 postgraduates (including 26 doctoral students) and 25 international students.
