Which do you think is more important, college English or college Chinese?

Both college English and college Chinese are very important.

Under the trend of globalization, English ability is not only more and more important, but also attaches importance to practical application ability in study and work. At the same time, it also shows that the proposer knows that CET-4 and CET-6 are essentially general English tests.

This can be traced back to 1987' s "Examination Outline" on the implementation of CET-4 and CET-6, which clearly stated that "the purpose of the examination is to comprehensively evaluate whether the students who have completed CET-4 have reached the objectives stipulated in the syllabus".

It is based on the formulation of the curriculum outline that leads to the phenomenon of "grades are linked to graduation" and "getting high marks without communicating in English", which also leads to many institutions refusing to recognize CET-4 and CET-6 in disguise.

Where is the way to reform college English examination?

Different from the bottleneck of general English test, social English test has developed vigorously in recent years. The so-called social English test refers to the test based on the analysis of the English needs of employers and serving the specific social needs. For example, IELTS and TOEFL are designed according to the English ability required by North American universities, while TOEIC is designed according to the workplace English needs of multinational companies.

In addition, there are Cambridge Business English (BEC) jointly organized by the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education and the Examination Committee of Cambridge University, National Foreign Language Translation Certificate (NAETI) organized by the Ministry of Education and Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Translation Qualification Examination (CATTI) organized by the Ministry of Personnel. They can participate flexibly according to their individual needs, have pertinence in the design of examination content and difficulty, and have wide social recognition.

As an ordinary English test, CET-4 and CET-6 mainly test students' ability to master the language of syllabus. Although they also seek innovation and change, compared with the different talent needs in society, a national paper can meet the "teaching evaluation", but the ability characteristics of students can not be observed, and their recognition is naturally slightly weak.
