Why March 5 is Lei Feng Day

This is the day of Mao Zedong's inscription for Lei Feng.

August 15, 1962, Shenyang troops, a soldier Lei Feng unfortunately died in the line of duty at the age of 22. March 5, 1963, Chairman Mao Zedong for Lei Feng's inscription "to comrade Lei Feng learning", and published in the "People's Daily". So every year, March 5 is designated as the anniversary of learning from Lei Feng.

Life Experience

Lei Feng was born during the Anti-Japanese War, when the people were in dire straits. His family was shattered by the evil old society, broken, in just over four years, his grandfather, father, mother, brother, brother five relatives were forced to die one after another, the young Lei Feng less than seven years old became an orphan.

Lei Feng once wrote in a diary, "My family is very poor, father, mother, brother, brother, all died in the hands of the national enemy and class enemy, this blood feud, I will always remember in my heart."

Lei Feng's grandfather called Lei Xinting, to rent landlord fields to make a living, the whole year hard labor, but still can not maintain the family's livelihood, and finally contracted a serious illness, bedridden. At the end of the year, the landlord came to force the Lei family to pay off the rental debt before the year, Lei Xinting was unable to repay, grief and anger, his condition worsened, and he was forced to die in the sound of firecrackers at the New Year's Eve.

Lei Feng's father, Lei Mingliang, grew up farming with Lei Feng's grandfather, renting land from landlords to live. He took part in the famous Hunan Peasant Movement in 1929. Later, when the Revolution failed, Lei Mingliang went to work as a picker at the Renhefu oil and salt store in Changsha. In 1944, Lei Mingliang was dragged by Japanese invaders to work as a porter, and because of the resistance and severe beating, he vomited more and more blood, and had no money for medical treatment, and died of illness in the spring of 1945.
