On the application of wax method in bronze ware and its artistic characteristics
Generally, a wooden mold or prototype is used to turn sand. The sand mold must be made in half and then assembled together. The mold must be taken out of the semi-sand mold. The lost wax method does not need to take out the mold, so it can cast articles with very complicated shapes. Modern precision casting uses very fine casting sand, that is, first making a wax mold, then sandblasting the mold and firing the sand mold at high temperature, so that a very complicated and fine mold can be made. Directly casting very precise parts without mechanical processing. The application scope of lost wax method is gradually expanding. Besides Ding and Yi, it is also used to cast seals, musical bells, Buddha statues, shells and ornaments in ethnic minority areas. Nowadays, people still use the lost wax method to cast metal castings, which is called investment casting.
The history of wax loss law in China can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. The earliest bronze wax-lost device cast by wax-lost method is Chu Tan written by Wang Xiongshen. In addition, the moire copperplate unearthed from Si Xia Chu's tomb in Xichuan and the copperplate statue of Zeng Houyi's tomb in the Warring States period unearthed from Leigudun in Suizhou are also typical wax-lost objects.
