About Taekwondo

Taekwondo originated in Korea. TAEKWONDO is an ancient folk art in East Asia, especially on the Korean Peninsula, and is a traditional Korean sport that uses hand-to-hand and foot-to-foot techniques for combat. Around the first century B.C., the three oldest states of Korea emerged one after another, Silla, Goryeo and Baekje. The three countries were at war with each other for many years. All three countries trained strictly in Taekwondo as a martial art to strengthen their bodies and defend their countries. In the mural paintings of the Maejungmae and the Sangmurojungmae in the ancient tomb of Marudu, the capital of Goryeo, you can see two men fighting each other, and on the top wall of the Sangmurojungmae Sangmurojungmae, you can see two strong men fighting with Taekwondo techniques. There are many other similar murals, which show that Taekwondo was already very popular at that time. In 1909, Japan sent troops to invade Korea, and the Lee Dynasty fell. The Japanese established a colonial government, which banned all Korean cultural activities, including Taekwondo, in order to prevent the Korean people from revolting and to wear down their will. At that time, many Koreans were forced to leave their homes and traveled to China or other countries to earn a living, and as a result, Taekwondo, a martial art, spread to some Asian countries. In the meantime, Taekwondo absorbed the essence of martial arts from many countries, such as Chinese martial arts and Japanese karate, which further enriched Taekwondo.
