Chen Fan replied, "When a great man is in the world, he should clean the whole world, but not one house!" Xue Qin immediately asked in return, "If you don't clean one house, how can you clean the whole world?" Chen Fan was speechless when he heard this and found it very reasonable. There was a deputy prime minister in the Tang Dynasty named Li Jie, once his sister was sick, he took care of her personally, and when he was cooking porridge for his sister over the fire, the flames burned his beard. His sister was very intolerant and advised him, "You have so many servants and concubines, why do you have to work so hard yourself?" Li Jie immediately replied, "You are so sick that I don't feel comfortable letting others take care of you. You're getting older now, and I'm getting old myself, so even if I wanted to cook congee for you all the time, I wouldn't have much of a chance to do so." For Li Jie to be able to treat his sister like this is truly rare.
Wisdom: In ancient times, people treated all people as brothers and sisters, and we can't do that now, but at least we have to live in harmony with our families. If you can't even give this love, it's hard to say what the world will become.

When the Empress heard of this, she asked what had happened, and immediately put on her great gown and saluted Taizong to congratulate him: "Congratulations, Your Majesty, congratulations, Your Majesty! The Tang Dynasty has such a good minister as Wei Zheng and such a good emperor as you; this is a good phenomenon that has never been seen in history, and the country's prosperity is just around the corner." He lived at a time when the government was corrupt, and corruption and bribery were rampant. When local officials went to Beijing to do business, they always had to send silver to bribe their superiors, but only Yu Qian never sent gifts. Zixia also said, "A gentleman has three changes: looking at him in a dignified manner, namely, he is also warm, and listening to his words, he is also stern." It means that the appearance of a gentleman has three variations from the outside: when you really look at him from afar, you feel that he is solemn; when you get close to him, you feel that he is gentle; and when you wait to hear him speak, you feel that he is stern.

Losing One's Attention
The Lüshi Chunqiu (Spring and Autumn Annals of Lu Shi) recorded a story that when Confucius was in hunger between the states of Chen and Cai, he did not have food for seven days and seven nights, and could only lie there in a listless state. One day, his disciple Yan Hui found a little rice and prepared to cook it for his teacher. When it was almost cooked, Yan Hui grabbed a handful and ate it first. Confucius quietly watched and felt that Yan Hui was a bit rude, so he was not very happy.
After a while, the rice was cooked, and Yan Hui asked Confucius to eat first. Confucius said, "I just had a dream about the late emperor, so I should offer the clean food first before eating it. Yan Hui immediately replied, "You must not! Just now some dirt and ashes fell into the pot, and although I caught it out and ate it, the rice was already dirty, so I cannot offer it to the late ruler." At this point, Confucius realized that he had wrongly blamed Yan Hui.
Afterwards, Confucius sighed with deep feeling: "What is believed is the eye, but the eye is not trustworthy; what is relied on is the heart, but the heart is not enough to be relied on. The disciple remembered that it is not easy to know people." It means: I trust my eyes, but what the eyes see is sometimes unreliable; I rely on my heart, but what the heart analyzes is sometimes unreliable. Disciples should remember: it is not supposed to be easy to understand a person!
Wisdom: Some people believe that "hearing is not believing, seeing is not believing", but sometimes it is not. Do not think that what you see and hear are all true, can not be doubted, based on one's own opinion to judge the good and bad of others, is not necessarily particularly reliable, may be mixed with untrue elements.

After reading the letter, Zhang Tingyu approved a poem on the original letter and sent it back to him: "Thousands of miles of books for the wall, let him three feet of no harm, the Great Wall is still there, who saw the year Qin Shi Huang." Received a reply, the chief immediately ordered to let three feet of land out, the neighbors also let out three feet of land, leaving six feet of open space, becoming a lane that everyone can pass, later known as "six feet of the lane". This Zhang Tingyu reputation, doubly praised by the neighbors.
Wisdom: People in high positions should have a broad mind, understand the righteousness, and not stingy with trivial goods. Those who are light on wealth and fond of giving will be more secure in their position and practice. When you have status, property, fame, realm, health, talent, wisdom, etc., do not be condescending, you should think that all these worldly blessings may seem wonderful, but after a while they will be gone, so there is nothing to be haughty about, and you should do your best to give to benefit others.

Kneeling Sheep
A long, long time ago, there was a child who was very ungrateful to his father and mother, who had no other choice but to look for the child's uncle. The uncle was a sheep herder who herded sheep on the hillside every day. Although he was uneducated, he had a good way of educating his children. He said to the child's parents, "Leave your nephew to me, and after a while he will change his mind and become a good boy who honors his parents." The next day, the child's parents sent the child to his uncle's house. When the uncle saw his nephew, he neither scolded nor beat him, but without saying a word, handed him a sheep whip. In the middle of the day in June, the sun was baking like a ball of fire on the hillside, and the birds were hiding in the shade of the trees. The uncle also took his nephew to a big tree to cool off. At this time, there were a few small birds flying around in the hot sun. The nephew asked his uncle, "Aren't these little crows afraid of the heat? What are they busy with as they keep flying around?" The uncle pointed to the bird's nest on the tree and said, "I guess there is a crow in the bird's nest that is too old to fly and is tilting its head and opening its beak to be fed by the little crows one bite at a time. Without the little crows feeding it, it would have starved to death. This is called 'the crow feeding back'." The nephew listened on the side and silently lowered his head. Another day, uncle and nephew were fiddling with some lambs in the sheepfold. The nephew saw that the lambs were all kneeling down to eat milk and felt strange. He asked his uncle, "Why are the lambs always kneeling for milk?" Uncle sat on a stone, told the origin of the lamb kneeling: a long time ago, a ewe gave birth to a lamb. The mother of the sheep loved the lamb very much, let it sleep at night snuggled up to the side, with the body warmed the lamb, so that the lamb slept well and fragrant. In the daytime, when she ate grass, she took the lamb with her and kept it close to her. When other animals bully the lamb, the mother sheep uses her head to resist and protect the lamb. Once, the mother was feeding her lamb. A hen came over and said, "Mother sheep, you have lost a lot of weight lately. All the food you eat is smacked away by the lambs. Look at me, I never care about what the chicks eat or drink, I just let them flap around on their own." Sheep mother hated hen words, said nonchalantly: "you talk too much about right and wrong, in the end to commit the death of wringing the neck, but also to get a knife, what good for you?" After being angry with the hen, the lamb said, "Mom, you love me so much, how can I repay you for your kindness?" Sheep mother said: "I do not want you to repay anything, as long as you have a piece of filial piety will be satisfied." After hearing this, the little sheep did not feel tears, "flopping" kneeling on the ground, indicating that it is difficult to repay the mother's deep love. From then on, the lamb knelt down every time it ate milk. It knew that its mother had fed it with milk, and it was grateful to its mother for her kindness in breastfeeding it. This is the "lamb kneeling".
Wisdom: The crows know how to feed, the lambs know how to kneel, do not people know how to honor their parents?
Wisdom: The crow knows how to feed itself, the lamb knows how to kneel.
