Culture of Shaoxing

Wooden boat, black felt hat; social theater, Shaoxing Opera, Yueju Opera; water township, bridge township, wine township, calligraphy township, these are the cultural elements of the ancient city of Shaoxing.

The opera originated from the custom of sacrificing to the god of society (land god) in spring and fall in the rural areas of the place.
