Operation tips: space bar, play and pause. shift + home select the current position to the beginning part; shift + end select the current to the end part. home return to the beginning part; end jump to the end part - multi-track, single-track window are valid. In the single-track vertical and horizontal scale, multi-track horizontal scale, and the two windows of the time display column right-click the mouse, you can customize the display unit or style.
Thanks to Syntrillium Software for providing us with this professional-grade software. However, all of the above is probably less than 10% of what it can do. A good work = creativity + material + handy tools + hard work. But I believe that at least you have taken a welcome step, continue to learn to explore, a few times the plow, a few points of harvest, let it for your imagination wings, to help you reach the pinnacle of success!
Cool Edit Pro is a multi-track digital audio editing software that integrates recording, mixing, and editing. Here we take version 1.2 as an example to introduce how to use the features often used in general production and editing audio.
First of all, let's introduce the menu and shortcut toolbar.
File: This menu contains common commands such as New, Open, Close, Store and Save As.
Open and Open As have a little difference, the former is a general open command, while the latter means "open as", what I do not say we know. In fact, there is only one option, that is, the file has been created to open, and then appeared as 2 of the format conversion window, select the format you want to point "OK", after a long period of time (2-4 minutes) after waiting, your original audio file is converted to the format you just selected. In fact, this process can first use Open to open the file, and then use Edit in the Convert Sample Type format conversion to achieve. I don't know what David Johnston was thinking, but it's not a bad idea, but it's not very practical.
Open Append is a way to connect an open audio file to the end of an open file, so that the two audio files are spliced together into one big audio wave file.
Revert to Saved reloads the last saved file and ignores all current operations. This can be accomplished by closing the file (without saving it) and then opening it again.
Close means to close the current wave file.
Close All Waves and Session closes all wave files (including those in use and those not used in the current task) and tasks (the whole working environment in multi-track operation, for now, call it "task"). With this command, all working "garbage" and "garbage cans" will be eliminated.
Close Only Non-Session Wavefrom closes wavefiles that are not related to the current task.
Save and Save As are self-explanatory (any fool knows how to use them).
Save Copy As is to make a backup copy of the file you are currently working on. But do not forget to take another file name, otherwise ....
Save Selection as the name suggests will be the current wave file selected part of the save disk.
Save All means Save All. But be careful, when you select this option, you have no choice, it automatically saves all your finished or unfinished edits and tasks (unless the file or task you are editing is a new one, it will ask you to determine the filename), so it's generally best not to use it.
Free Hard Drive Space cleans up hard drive space. When you're doing audio editing, it's inevitable that you'll generate some temporary and Undo files, which you can empty here.
Exit to exit CE.
Edit: This menu contains some common commands for copying, pasting, deleting, format converting and so on.
Enable Undo turns on Undo.
Repeat Last Command. No matter what file you open (including the current file), you can repeat the last command on that file.
Set Current Clipboard allows you to select the clipboard you are currently using.CE itself has 5, plus 1 for Windows 95(98), a **** has 6 clipboards to choose from, but you can only choose 1 at a time.
Copy, Cut and Paste functions I believe we all know, copying, cutting and pasting is also. You can select (highlight) a part of the current file for copy and cut and paste work.
Paste to New pastes a file from the clipboard as a new file.
Mix Paste mixes the contents of the Clipboard waveform into the current waveform file. When you use this command, a dialog box like this one will appear, in which you can choose how to mix. For example, Insert, Overlap, Replace, Modulate, and so on. You can also choose whether the waveform data to be mixed is from the clipboard or from an already created waveform file.
Copy to New copies the current file or the selected part of the current file into a new waveform file and adds "(2)" to the original file name.
Insert in Multitrack inserts the current wave file or the selected part of the current file into a new track in the Multitrack window.
Insert Play List in Multitrack
Select Entire Wave Selects the entire waveform. This can also be done by double-clicking the left mouse button.
Delete Selection deletes the selected portion of the current file.
Delete Silence deletes small levels of signal (near silent sections). However, you have to select some parameters between this work, such as how many decibels below, how much time above, and other parameters, so that CE can determine the amount of small signals to remove. Note, the current file time will be shorter after removing the small signals, because it is removing all the small signal parts that meet the requirements, not reducing the volume.
Trim filters out the unchecked portion of the current waveform file. Without saving the disk, you can use the Revert to Saved command to restore the original file, or use the Undo function to restore it (you'll have to turn on the Undo function to do this, of course).
Zero Crossings adjusts the start and end of the selected region (section) to the nearest zero position. The zero point is where a valid sine wave crosses the centerline. The use of this function is a bit more esoteric and is not used much, but a little bit about it anyway. There are a few more options in this menu, which I'll briefly mention:
Adjust Selection Inward adjusts the start and end of the selected region of the waveform to the closest position to zero within that region.
Adjust Selection Outward adjusts the start and end of the selected region of the waveform to the closest point to zero outside the region.
Adjust Left Side to Left adjusts the start of the selected region of the waveform (the left portion) to the left to the position closest to zero.
Adjust Left Side to Right adjusts the start of the selected area of the waveform (the left portion) to the right to the nearest zero position.
Adjust Right Side to Left adjusts the end of the selected area of the waveform (the right side) to the left to the nearest zero position.
Adjust Right Side to Right adjusts the end of the selected area of the waveform (right part) to the right to the position of the nearest zero point.
It doesn't seem very clear, but it's actually quite simple: if the start and end points are right at the zero position, then the beginning and end of the selected region are in a silent state, and the overall damage to the original wave file is minimized when you copy, paste, and so on, at least in the sense that it's better than copying and pasting randomly.
This feature is especially useful for those who do a lot of wave splicing and production.
Find Beats uses this tool to quickly help you find the start and end points of a complete beat (kind of like a rhythm) in music. That is, the part between 2 accented (large level) signals, so you can easily make loops (e.g. drum loops, etc.).
Auto-Cue auto-labeling. There are a few more options underneath it:
Adjust Selection to Phrase is to define a phrase in the selected (highlighted) area (the "phrase" is the name I've given it for the time being to make it easier to understand. Literally translated, it means "common statement"). The segment is the area where the signal starts at a small level and becomes a large level, and ends at a large level and becomes a small level.
Find Phrases and Mark finds all the phrases in the selected region and adds each one to the Cue List by marking it with a queue.
Find Beats and Mark finds all beats in the selected region and adds each beat to the Cue List with a queue mark.
Auto-Cue Settings is a dialog box that appears when the mouse is pressed. The above commands and options are all based on this parameter, which can be obtained automatically with Find Levels, or modified manually.
Snapping moves the pointer quickly to a defined position (literally translated as "aligning", but it's hard to tell with "aligning"). The exact position is determined by its 3 sub-options, the best one being Snap to Cues, which is the third one, and in Auto-Cue, if you've created multiple passages or beats, you can quickly jump to the next position based on the markers in the playback control shortcuts when moving forward and backward.
Adjust Sample Rate. The sample rate adjustment only adjusts the sample rate used by the sound card to play the current audio file (of course, the sound card must be able to support the selected sample rate or it won't be able to play it), it doesn't modify the sample rate of the current file. When you change the sample rate, the time scale on the timeline changes, with a lower sample rate resulting in a longer time, and vice versa.
Convert Sample Type. With this tool, the sample rate of the current file will be changed (the playback time will not change), the file size will be changed, and the processing time will be longer (about 2-4 minutes). You can choose between sample rate, number of channels and resolution (number of quantization bits) parameters, and when choosing 8-bit quantization, you can also choose the dithering parameter.
Edie Tempo calculates the beat. By entering some necessary parameters (such as the time per beat), the total number of beats of the current tune can be calculated.

Cue List is a list of the queues in the Cue List, which is a list of the files in the Cue List. >Cue List The Cue List dialog box shows the three queues that have been selected for the current file. The Cue List dialog is a floating menu, so you can open it while doing other work, and if the queue changes at that time, it will be displayed immediately in this dialog. If you are careful, you may find a Batch button at the bottom right of the dialog, when you select any of the queues in the list, it will be lit, and the dialog will appear after you press it.The function of Set Amount Of Silence is to insert a small level (zero level) signal at each end of the range of the selected queue's start and end, and the signal's value is the value of the selected time as shown below. The time value of this signal is the time value selected below. This changes the current file length (the time added is the sum of the two selected times). Of course, you can go into Batch again and change the time values to "0", and then the length of the current file will go back to its original size. It doesn't matter if you saved the file before you changed it back to the original length, you can open the saved file and see that the original queue (the one you had processed) is still there, so go to Batch, change the time value to "0" and then OK, and you will be back to the original length again. There is also a Save to Files option in the lower part of the Batch dialog box, which I don't think we all know is to save the waveform file in the selected queue area as a file, and add the prefix of the desired file in the text box after Filename Prefix, and it will automatically number the file. Then the following two will not say, this will not, that the years of computer play in vain.
