Nordic combined originated in northern Europe and consists of cross-country skiing and platform skiing. It has been circulating in Norway and Sweden for a long time and has become a traditional Nordic event, also known as Nordic All-around.

1883 was included in the Hollmen Keren Ski Grand Prix, which was popularized to the world in the early 20th century. 1924 was listed as the first Winter Olympics, and 1988 Winter Olympics began to set up team events. In 2002, the individual chase (racing) was added to the "Winter Olympics" in the United States.

There are three event groups in nordic combined: men's individual platform skiing/cross-country skiing 10km, individual platform skiing/cross-country skiing 10km and team platform skiing/cross-country skiing 4× 5km relay.

The general organization of nordic combined is the International Ski Federation, with its headquarters in Switzerland.
