Why don't many people advise their children to choose law major?

Every graduation season, some third-party research institutions will release professional employment reports to facilitate candidates to choose a major to fill in their volunteers. According to the data released by a well-known third-party investigation agency in recent years, majors such as law, biotechnology, biological science and engineering have been listed as red cards for many times. There are many reasons behind the continuous decline in the employment rate of law, biotechnology and other majors.

On the one hand, in the job market, the supply of talents in these occupations exceeds demand. If supply exceeds demand, some people will naturally lose their jobs unless they transfer to other industries. The oversupply of talents in these majors has a lot to do with the blind opening of these majors in some colleges and universities. I have seen a statistic before. At present, there are more than 600 undergraduate colleges and universities in China, of which more than 400 undergraduate colleges and universities have law majors. So many schools offer law majors, some schools have a huge enrollment scale, and there are so many jobs in the market every year, which will naturally lead to a low employment rate of law majors.

On the other hand, law is a typical industry with a threshold, which is very similar to the medical industry. If you want to engage in legal work, most jobs have requirements. You must obtain professional qualification certification, that is, the current legal professional qualification examination. The passing rate of legal professional qualification examination is generally between 8%- 10%. In recent years, the pass rate has improved, but the pass rate is only 15%. It is precisely because the supply of talents exceeds the demand and the legal profession has a certain threshold, so the employment rate of legal profession has been declining in recent years and has become a red card profession many times.

However, the above are all common situations. The low employment rate of law majors does not mean that all graduates can't find good jobs after graduation. The legal profession, like the health care profession, follows the "28 Law". In the legal profession, 20% of people create 80% of the value and take away 80% of the wealth. In other words, "head effect" is very obvious in this industry. If you can get into a law school with a relatively high ranking, such as the traditional "five schools and four departments", and successfully pass the legal professional qualification examination, it will definitely be very easy to find a good job when you graduate. If you have the ability to get a law degree in Europe and America, such as LLM or JD, then you can easily get a monthly salary of more than 20 thousand by entering some better law firms.

Generally speaking, whether to choose a law major depends on three aspects.

First, whether your college entrance examination results can be applied to a law school with a relatively high ranking. If you can only apply for two universities for your college entrance examination results, then my suggestion is that you should not choose law major unless you like it very much and love it very much.

Second, are you a long-term activist? There will be a very interesting phenomenon in the current legal market, including the domestic legal talent market for a long time to come, that is, "a large number of talents". If you want to become a "head talent" in the legal profession, you must be prepared for long-term investment. After graduation, you usually need to go to graduate school, or go abroad to get a law degree and pass the legal professional qualification examination.

Third, do your parents support you in choosing a law major? The typical feature of law major is that it is bitter before sweet. If you want to gain a foothold in the legal profession, you must have a lot of upfront investment, which of course requires the support of your parents. Without the support of your parents, you may not last 1~2 years.
