In the 333rd batch of new car announcements released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on May 22, there's a lot to see, regardless of whether it's a fuel car, plug-in hybrid or pure electric.

In the fuel-vehicle segment, besides the soon-to-be-replaced Hyundai Elantra, Kia K5, and BYD Song, including the Lincoln Voyager, Citroen C3L, and BAIC BEIJING-X7 and other brand-new faces, all of them are the focus of even more attention, in addition to the newly added 1.2T model of the Volkswagen Polaris, and the new 1.8T model of the Transaerial GS8, which is a wonderful sight to behold.

Here, we'll pick a few of the most talked-about cars and take a look at them, one by one, to see what information these new cars dramatize in advance.

Hyundai Elantra: continue with 1.5L engine

About the new generation of Elantra, in fact, we have seen one after another from two months ago, because the seventh generation of the Elantra was the first one to be officially launched in Hollywood on March 18th.

The new-generation domestic Elantra has a length, width and height of 4,680mm, 1,810mm and 1,415mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,720mm, which is an increase in length, width and wheelbase compared to its predecessor. As for the lower height, it matches its sportier styling.

I won't dwell on the styling of the new Elantra here, but it's worth noting that its front fascia features a variety of styles, which is exactly what's popular in the domestic car market these days.

Power, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) information shows that the new Elantra will continue to carry the current model's 1.5L naturally aspirated engine (codenamed G4FL, with a maximum power of 84.5 kilowatts), and it is not yet known whether the current 1.4T will continue to be used. There's also no further word on the 2.0L self-priming engine in the new overseas Elantra, or the 1.6L hybrid.

Since the first-generation model was launched 30 years ago, the Elantra has sold a cumulative 13.8 million units in the global market, making it the most successful Korean car. For domestic consumers, the relationship with the Elantra began in 2003, the third generation of the Elantra, and since then successive generations of domestically produced Elantras have gone by the names of Hyundai, Rondo and Link. As of February this year, successive generations of Elantra sold 4.6 million units in China***, sales list belongs to the first lineup.

Today's seventh-generation model will carry the burden of returning Hyundai to the top of the sales ladder in China.

Kia's new K5: bigger than overseas

A month ago, when Dongfeng Yueda Kia's third-generation K5 was given the Chinese name "Kaikou" and pre-sales were launched, the official disclosure was that the domestic version of the K5 is even more impressive than the overseas version: bigger, more powerful, and more richly equipped.

From the information made public by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology this time, the first two points are indeed confirmed.

First is the size, only 20mm short of 5 meters long, can be said to have set a new record in its class, coupled with the 2.9-meter wheelbase, so that the new generation of K5 has been vaguely B + sedan faction. Overseas, the new generation K5 is 4905mm long, with a wheelbase of 2850mm, compared to the domestic version, which is 75mm longer, with a wheelbase of 50mm, while width and height remain the same.

Looking at the power, the domestic K5 is equipped with 1.5T and 2.0T two kinds of power, the maximum power of 125 kW and 176.5 kW respectively. During the previous pre-sale, the official has revealed that the 1.5T is matched with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and the 2.0T is matched with an 8AT gearbox. By comparison, in Korea itself, the new K5 uses two powertrains, 1.6T + 8AT and 2.0L + 6AT.

It is worth noting that the 1.5T engine used in the entry model of the domestic K5 is the latest fourth-generation engine of the Hyundai Kia Group, which applies the fourth-generation CVVD variable valve actuation system, and is the world's first variable-cycle engine that integrates the Miller cycle, the Otto cycle and the Atkinson cycle into one. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the 1.5T model's fuel consumption is only 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers.

Similarly, the current generation K5 features a different front style, as well as rear details, and a bilateral quad exhaust design for the 2.0T model.

Citroen C3L: Carrying too many expectations

There has been too much talk in circles about the downturn in French cars in recent years, and even Renault's announcement of its withdrawal from the domestic fuel-vehicle market not long ago has led to public concern about Citroen, which has been rooted in the Chinese market for nearly 30 years -- will it follow in Renault's footsteps?

But this worry is actually superfluous. On the one hand, Dongfeng is a shareholder of PSA, and on the other hand, Citroen has a complete plan for new products in the Chinese market, as well as a globalization layout. The C3L, which entered the new car catalog of the MIIT, is the most important new model of Citroen in China this year.

The MIIT's public information shows that the C3L's length, width and height dimensions are 4505mm, 1748mm and 1513mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 2655mm, making it a standard compact sedan. This size, just to fill the gap between the Aliso (A-class) and the C4L (A + class), to form a full coverage of the compact sedan market.

Unusually, the C3L doesn't try to emphasize its sporty qualities by lowering its height like many of today's new compact sedans, and it's nearly 100mm taller than the soon-to-be-replaced Elantra -- which suggests that the C3L's passenger headroom should be quite generous.

In terms of power, the C3L follows the same 1.2T engine as the C4L, codenamed HN06, and because it meets the National VI emissions, the power parameters have been reduced considerably compared to the previous one, with a maximum power of 85 kilowatts. Accordingly, the level of fuel consumption can also be reduced, declared data show that only 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers.

For Dongfeng Citroen, the C3L will be responsible for the brand's rebound this year.

Lincoln Voyager: luxury midsize SUV is a new choice

Lincoln has come late to the Chinese market. But Lincoln is clearly determined to quickly gain a foothold in the world's No. 1 market.

So, just two months after the first domestic model, the Adventurer, Lincoln's second domestic model, the Mariner, has already appeared on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's new car catalog, and according to this pace, it will definitely be on sale within this year.

First, let's look at the dimensions of the domestically produced Mariner, with a length of 4849mm, a width of 1934mm, a height of 1693mm, and a wheelbase of 2850mm. such data is placed in the same class of competitors, which clearly reflects the advantage of the body section. Moreover, compared with the imported version, the wheelbase, width and height are also slightly different.

And then there's the power. There is no doubt that the domestic Mariner will continue to use the imported models of the 2.0T and 2.7T engine, output power of 182 kW and 239 kW, respectively, the former than the imported version of the lower 3kW, the latter than the imported version of the higher 2kW. although the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology public information does not have the configuration of the gearbox, but according to the Lincoln brand's usual practice, it should be the continuation of the previous 8AT gearbox.

In fact, before the domestic production, the Mariner is sold as an imported car in China, that is, something that started only in February last year, when priced at 398,800-528,800 yuan, the terminal discount of 60,000 yuan at this stage. According to this trend, after the domestic production of the Mariner, the starting price should be pulled down to less than 300,000 yuan, which is also in line with the current domestic second-tier luxury midsize SUV market.

According to the Adventurer's previous entry-level luxury features, we believe that the Mariner should go even further in terms of features. If that's the case, and with the size advantage and a step up in pricing, it shouldn't be difficult to surpass the current import status in terms of sales.

Finally

There are quite a few more fuel-efficient cars on this issue of the new car catalog, and the four above are just the most representative.

As for the others, such as the BYD Song, you can see by the body parameters, this is a completely beyond the existing Song and Song PRO a new model (body length of more than 4.7 meters, wheelbase of nearly 2.8 meters), and can even be called a midsize SUV - some media called Song PLUS, which also seems quite appropriate. It also seems quite appropriate. The BEIJING-X7, for example, will not be elaborated further.

This year's downturn in the auto market has so far failed to stop due to the epidemic, but compared with the plunge in the new energy sector, the traditional fuel-vehicle market seems to be more desirable, and so automakers, including new-energy leader BYD, have stepped up their efforts to put new vehicles into the fuel-vehicle segment. After all, fuel cars are still the absolute mainstream.
