What is retro?

Retroism, especially cultural retro-ism, is a cultural trend of thought since modern times, which was produced in the collision between Chinese and western cultures. Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao are its main representatives.

Cultural revivalism re-publicizes the value and function of traditional culture in China, and holds that the Millennium orthodoxy of traditional culture cannot be discarded, and the only way out for China culture is to re-establish the dominant position of traditional culture. They resolutely oppose westernization, demand to return to Confucius and Mencius, advocate the movement of respecting Confucius in society, advocate reciting classics, establish "Confucius churches" in various places, and publicize their own cultural retro-ism.

Although cultural revivalism has played a certain role in affirming the role of China's traditional culture, they stick to traditional dogma and refuse to adopt a sublation attitude towards traditional culture and learn from advanced western culture. This is a metaphysical concept, which is completely wrong. In the New Culture Movement, the trend of cultural retro was severely criticized by the New Culture Movement.
