The influence of arrow feather on bow and arrow

The arrow feather sticks to the back of the shaft, which plays a role in balancing and maintaining the direction in the flight of the arrow. Usually, the arrow feather profile is streamlined and has good aerodynamic performance.

Plastic arrow feather is made of soft and elastic plastic sheet, which is the choice of most archers at present. Its advantages are low price, quiet flight, easy adhesion, durability, no fear of water, and basically adapt to all kinds of weather. It is a good choice for bow hunting. However, plastic arrow feathers also have some big disadvantages. First, the weight of plastic arrow feather is heavier, which is three times that of the same size arrow feather. Moreover, due to the smooth surface of the plastic arrow feather, the stability of flying in the air is worse than that of the rough surface arrow feather.

Feather arrow feathers are made of natural feathers and are very expensive. Its price is basically four times that of the same grade plastic arrow feather. If it is a feather arrow feather with a special shape, its price is 10 times that of the same grade plastic arrow feather. Feathers and arrows are very afraid of water, which will affect the flight quality in rainy days or weather with considerable humidity. However, the biggest advantage of the arrow feather is that it is light. Generally, three 4-inch feathers weigh only 8 grains, and the same plastic arrow feather weighs 24 grains. The ability of feather arrow feather to keep flying attitude is better than that of plastic arrow feather.

According to the different arrangement of arrow feathers, it can be divided into three types: linear, offset and spiral.

Linetype means that the arrow feather is parallel to the axis. Offset type means that the bottom of the arrow feather is straight and parallel to the axis, but the upper part of the arrow feather has a certain angle deflection with the axis, generally 4 degrees deflection. Spiral type means that the arrow feather is bonded to the shaft at a certain angle and rotates relatively large. Both the offset arrow and the spiral arrow will rotate by themselves when flying in the air. The difference between the two is just like the difference between bullets fired by muskets and bullets fired by riflemen.

Linear arrow feather features: the fastest flight speed, the smallest air resistance, cheap bonding, can be matched with various arrow platforms. However, the ability to keep flying attitude for a long distance is weak, and the balance is not good when using arrows with arrows.

The characteristics of offset arrow feather: it can also balance the arrow with arrow well, has small air resistance, can match with most arrow platforms, and can maintain a good flight attitude at a long distance. But this kind of arrow feather will slow down the speed of the arrow and affect its kinetic energy.

The characteristics of spiral type: the flight attitude is the most stable, which keeps it stable during the whole flight and significantly improves the accuracy of the arrow. But it also obviously reduces the flying speed of the arrow, and the kinetic energy of the arrow will be reduced accordingly. Air resistance is the biggest. Can only be matched with part of the arrow platform.
