The Revival of Zhanghua Temple

After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), Zhanghua Temple actively responded to the call of the Party and the government, carried forward the fine tradition of Buddhism, paid equal attention to agriculture and Zen, adhered to human Buddhism and prayed for world peace, which was appreciated by all walks of life. In A.D. 1956, in order to cultivate Buddhist monks, zhanghua Temple sent Master Kuanlian to Beijing to receive systematic training in Buddhist teachings, so Master Kuanlian became the first batch of Buddhist monks in the New China Buddhist College. In the same year, Zhanghua Temple was listed as the first batch of key cultural relics protection units in Hubei Province. At the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution" in A.D. 1966, this famous monk came forth in large numbers, and the magnificent historical temples were devastated. Buddha statues were smashed, cultural relics were copied, temples were destroyed, monks were driven away, and factories were set up in temples. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Party, the Party's religious policy was implemented. Li Xiannian, the former president, visited Zhanghua Temple twice and made an important instruction that "the factory should be moved and the temple should be repaired". 1988, 14 In June, Master Kuan Lian, the former abbot of zhanghua Temple, led his people back to this Buddhist paradise and began to implement the grand plan to revitalize zhanghua Temple. In A.D. 1997, Master Kuanlian completed his merits and passed away peacefully. His disciple, Master Xinji, succeeded the abbot of zhanghua Temple, followed the master's wishes and the way of Yang Bodhi, and devoted himself to teaching and practicing. On behalf of the Chinese Buddhist Association, he taught the precepts of "Two Monks" in Zhanghua Temple twice, held "Water and Land Dafa Meeting" four times, and held "Seven Buddhist Memories" more than 100 times. 83 households in the temple were relocated, and Guanyin Ganlu Pagoda, Shanmen, Bell and Drum Tower, Tianwang Hall, Daxiong Hall, Guest Hall, Zhaitang, Five-faced Arhat Hall and Zen Hall were newly built and rebuilt 10 temples, with a total area of more than 20,000 square meters. More than 800 Buddha statues of various types have been built and rebuilt, and nearly 10,000 artifacts have been made, so that a large-scale Buddhist conference in Zhanghua Temple can accommodate 1000 disciples at the same time.

Under the auspices of Master Xinji, the existing Zhanghua Temple has more than 10 subordinate monasteries. However, according to the overall planning of Zhanghua Temple, it is necessary to build a complete jungle temple, improve the planning of tourism resources, and reach the national AAAA level scenic spot standard. There are also buildings to be built, such as Buddhist scripture building, reclining Buddha hall, ten thousand Buddha hall, dharma hall, tourist reception center, parking lot, Buddhist culture experience hall and so on. Zhanghua Temple will be completed in 1920. We firmly believe that the future of zhanghua Temple will be even better.
