Civilization Development of Folk Songs in Yanhuang Style
The first collection of poems in ancient China, "The Book of Songs", has been divided into three parts: "Wind", "Elegance" and "Ode" by the content of the lyrics and the style of the music. The 2,500-year history of the book proves that the real pearl with eternal artistic charm is the "wind", the 160 folk songs from 15 regions of the Zhou Dynasty that have made the descendants sing three times.
During the Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty set up a huge music organization to collect and organize folk songs. The songs that were included in the music were called "Lefu" (乐府). These songs, condensed and sincere, recorded the labor and love of the forefathers, and reflected the suffering and joy of the forefathers, laying the foundation for the later Shengtang period, when music and poetry were at their peak.
During the Ming Dynasty, the literary scholar Feng Menglong compiled and organized two special collections of fresh and spirited folk songs from the Wu region -- Hanging Branches and Mountain Songs. In his "Narrative Mountain Songs," written for the Shan Songs, he left behind the famous line, "But there is fake poetry and literature, not fake mountain songs."
After weathering the storms of history, China's feudal society, characterized by an agricultural economy, came to an end in the early 20th century. In the era of the gradual advance of the western winds, the pioneers did not forget the folk songs that had arisen in China's long feudal society and had continued to change with the times, seeking their own development. They did their best but with little success: in 1918, Mr. Cai Yuanpei published a presidential notice in the journal of Peking University to "collect ballads of the recent past from all over the country", and in 1920, Mr. Guo Moruo also put forward the idea of "compiling and integrating a "New National Style"". These are the first time that the Chinese government has ever made a decision to publish a book on the subject, and the first time that the Chinese government has ever done so.
From the 1950s, when the Chinese government entered a period of peace and construction, it supported cultural organizations in various places to carry out preliminary work of collecting and organizing folk songs, but it was interrupted because of the Cultural Revolution before it could take shape. 1979, when the Cultural Revolution had just come to an end, the work of the "Collection of Chinese Folk Music", which included a volume of folk songs, was published by the United Nations. Although the Cultural Revolution had just ended in 1979, the work of "Integrating Chinese Folk Music", including the volume of folk songs, was organized by the Ministry of Culture and the All-China Federation of Literary and Art Circles with the assistance of UNESCO and the allocation of funds from the Ministry of Finance, and the work was planned from the top down and screened from the bottom up to promote the work on a national scale that was more than any other time in history. Over the past twenty years, this great project, known as the "Great Wall of Chinese Culture", has achieved world-class results.
