Every time I talk about college life with others, I always have to explain it with difficulty.
"Not Russia, not abroad, but Jia Mu!"
The audience remained dumbfounded. Is there such a city name?
Indeed, among many famous cities in China, the name "Jiamusi" is absolutely non-mainstream, and even a little different. Like a disobedient child, he was criticized by his parents.
Geographically, Jiamusi, located in the east of Heilongjiang Province, is a city on the Sanjiang Plain. The downtown area is small, but extremely elegant. "There are beautiful trees in the north, torii", hence the name Jiamusi. This is the annotation of the literati, and it is also the most beautiful and gorgeous interpretation, full of good wishes and imagination.
In fact, from the perspective of history, nationality and regional culture, the name "Jiamusi" mainly comes from the following two sources.
First, it comes from Manchu, which originally meant "later success" or "station official". This place is an ancient post road from Songhua River to the mouth of Heilongjiang River. Its geographical location extends in all directions and the three rivers meet, so it has always been an important regional transportation hub in history, hence the name. During the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty, it was often translated into Chinese, such as "Jiamu Temple" or "Jiamusi".
The second view is that it comes from Hezhe language. Jiamusi is a national Hezhe nationality gathering area. Hezhe nationality is a very rare nationality with a total population of only over 5,000. Fish skin makes clothes, fishing and hunting for a living, believing in animism and worshiping shaman are its national characteristics. "Jiamusi" means "bone" and "corpse" in Hezhe language.
Looking back on yesterday, history has passed and time has become indifferent. Neither explanation makes sense.
But what's interesting is that I am actually connected with this unheard-of city which is more than 2300 kilometers away from me!
This is purely accidental, and random is a bit incredible.
But all the accidents in the world seem to be mixed with a trace of fatalism.
Four years of college seems to be short, and this city has long been integrated into my blood, which is an unavoidable part of my youth memories, even the most important part.

People's mentality always expects good things.
For example, when you see the words "boys, girls" now, what is the first impression that pops up in your mind?
There is no denying that the picture that appears in your subconscious must be handsome and beautiful, and the sun is beautiful. Can't be ugly and sick. Although this kind of appearance can be found everywhere in reality.
This is human nature.
This is especially true for emotional people.
And I, by nature, am a super emotional person.
I still clearly remember my uncontrollable excitement on the k 1470 train. During the 25-hour journey, I hardly slept a wink.
I am like a bride to be married who goes to find a lover. The lover in front is all I have. I am shy, but I can't wait to throw myself into his arms and show him all my thoughts and pains.
This is the psychology of pilgrims.
At the age of eighteen, I yearn for places I have never heard of, let alone seen. Just a glance at the senior high school entrance examination newspaper, I use the simple enthusiasm of young people for life, a place with a beautiful name-Jiamusi.
What is youth?
Enthusiasm in the heart, strength at the foot, not utilitarian in doing things, and still not being instilled with "exquisite egoism" may be the best annotation for youth.
I'm glad I'm still young. At that time, I was far less anxious and greasy than today.
When I flashed the photos of fifteen years ago, I still felt good.
Several teenagers, like the villagers who pressed their red fingers in Xiaogang Village, Fengyang in the late 1970s, gathered in my house and had a long talk. The scholar was in high spirits and stayed up all night.
At 4: 30 in Lingcheng, I accidentally talked about the snow. Because everyone likes snow, someone suggested that we meet and go to the distant Heilongjiang to see snow. I heard that girl over there is still very beautiful! A few people excitedly rummaged through the boxes to find out the atlas, opened the page of the college entrance examination newspaper Heilongjiang, circled it a little bit, and solved the great event of volunteering for the college entrance examination by themselves.
Parents' entrustment has already gone to the outside world. Whether it's saving our feelings, saving our economic foundation, saving our personal connections, or saving our future development-we just want to see the snow, and we want to go to places with heavy snow in the distance!
that's it
Enough!

Cities, like mothers, have nurtured everyone in the depths. Cities also have personalities. Look at the windowsill, eaves and every hidden corner from the sky with a panoramic view, express an attitude and tell you silently.
A city is not just a combination of physical spaces. It was a touch of time, a period of history, and some people have memories. It was and will always be.
I am familiar with many places in Jiamusi, even some obscure corners.
Cities are like human bodies, each one is different, especially in the details. And these different places are precisely the reference points to identify individual personality, and they are also the most memorable places. Let's call them the soul of the city.
There are fewer and fewer cities with souls nowadays. Industrialization has created the sadness of 1000 cities. The rapid development of the city is just a simple mechanical replication process. Speed cannot be equated with quality. So in reality, we often have to distinguish the differences between cities through historical symbols.
The soul of Jiamusi town lies in its architecture-the building in the corner.
Architecture is a language. This language has nothing to do with race, color, sex, class or position. As long as you love it, as long as you are moved, you can integrate into this language and participate in this context.
Gothic, Baroque, Russian, Nordic and Arabic buildings are scattered all over the city. Stay away from common continental urban styles. Personally, I don't like the traditional architecture with carved cakes in China. Although the history is heavy, magnificent and luxurious, and it is the crystallization of the wisdom of craftsmen, it just can't impress me. This has nothing to do with patriotism, but purely personal preferences.
I remember there was a baroque bookstore near the university. I like to walk along its wall before I go in. The little angel sculpture on the wall, dotted with special-shaped curved surfaces and oval hooks, is amazing. In the process of sinking, I seem to have entered the European Renaissance era. Stars gather to hold high the torch of humanism-anti-tradition, anti-theocracy, break through the barriers of the Middle Ages, redefine oneself and discover the beauty of human nature.
I wonder if this bookstore is still here today. There are fewer and fewer people reading, and the reading atmosphere is getting more and more boring. If it really disappears, there will be sincere regret. College students have another elegant place to go.
In the center of Jiamusi, near the affiliated hospital, there is a Muslim church in the shade. The white dome is very spectacular. Although I am not a Muslim, I have also sneaked into the crowd of worshippers to have a look. The biggest impact comes from the huge vault structure inside, which embodies the majesty and sacredness of religion. During this period, people unconsciously have a heavy sense of belonging endowed by religion-just like finding the warmth of their mother.
Therefore, I have always said that architecture is a language, and good architecture is the unity of people and things, leaving no gaps and being natural.
Walking in every corner of Jiamusi, you can find different places from the mainland. I was deeply impressed by the size of China and the beauty of the country.
Slow travel can touch the core of the city. Jump in, blend in, touch yourself!
