Biography of Chekhov:
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov ( Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, January 17, 1860 - July 15, 1904) Russian novelist, dramatist, nineteenth-century Russian writer of critical realism, master of the art of the short story.
Born on January 29, 1860 in Taganrog, Rostov Province. Grandfather was a ransomed serf. His father owned a grocery store, but in 1876 he went bankrupt and the family moved to Moscow. But Chekhov stayed in Taganrog, working as a tutor to support himself and continue his studies.
In 1879, Chekhov was admitted to the medical faculty of Moscow University, and after graduating in 1884, he practiced medicine in Zvenigorod, where he came into contact with a wide range of common people and learned about life, which had a good influence on his literary work. He was one of the three great masters of the short story, along with Maupassant of France and O. Henry of the United States.

Chekhov's novels are compact and concise, giving the reader room for independent thought. His plays had a great influence on 19th-century theater.
He adhered to the tradition of realism, focusing on depicting the daily life of the Russian people and molding small characters with typical personalities, thus truly reflecting the situation of Russian society at that time.
The two main characteristics of his works are his ridicule of the ugly phenomenon and his deep sympathy for the poor people, and his works mercilessly exposed the irrational social system and the ugly phenomenon of the society under the tsarist rule. Chekhov is regarded as the outstanding representative of Russian realist literature at the end of the 19th century.
