Hey guys, can I get internet access on that landline phone line in the countryside? How do I need to set it up?
There are 2 ways to access the internet on a traditional phone line: one is ADSL, which is commonly used nowadays and has a bandwidth greater than 1.5 megabytes; and the other is telephone dial-up, which has a bandwidth of only 56K and is not suitable for long term use. It doesn't matter where you use ADSL, the question is where is the nearest telephone repeater to your computer. If the repeater is too far away, it may lead to unstable network, or slow network speed, the specific signal strength has to be tested by the operator. As long as it's not too far from town there's usually no problem.
As for the cost, it's not easy to answer because it has to do with the area you're in, which carrier you're with, how much bandwidth you have, etc., and it depends on your local carrier.
