Where is Chechnya on the map?

North Caucasus in Russia

The location of the Chechen Republic on the map. The Chechen Republic is located in the Russian North Caucasus, the capital of Grozny. Chechnya covers an area of 1.73 million square kilometers, which is almost as big as Beijing, but its population is only 1.26 million. The main religion is Islam, and the ethnic group is mainly Chechens, accounting for 93.47%, and has its own language.

In the Russian Federation, Chechnya is an exception, with different races, nationalities, religions and languages. As the saying goes, because Chechnya is different from Russia in many aspects, after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, it wanted to be as independent as other countries, but it was resolutely opposed by Russia. During this period, two Chechen wars broke out, which were finally suppressed by Russian military force because of the disparity in military strength.

The earliest record in Chechnya was before the beginning of the 7th century. The word "Chechen" originated from the name of the village "Greater Chechnya" by the argon River, and gradually became the national name of Chechens. Chechens call themselves "Nakacho people", which means "ordinary people". Chechens were invaded by Mongols and Tatars in the13rd century, and were ravaged by Timur imperial troops in Central Asia at the end of14th century. It was not until 15 to 16 that the Golden Horde disintegrated that Chechen talents began to migrate from mountains to plains. From 16 to 19 century, Islam began to be introduced into Chechnya.

17 to 18 at the turn of the century, Chechnya began to be the object of contention among the three empires of Persia, Osman and Russia. Since then, Chechnya has experienced more than two centuries of war. Since the Ottoman Empire invaded in the15th century, Chechen people have been constantly resisting foreign invasion in the Caucasus mountains. Since joining the Muslim camp, the tension with the Ottoman Empire has eased, but the conflict with Christians, Cossacks and Buddhists has escalated.

For Chechens themselves, they did not call themselves Chechens at first, but called themselves "Nakhichi" or "Nakhichi". In Chechen, this word means "our land" or "people on the land".

Although there is no clear statement about the origin of Chechens, there is a legend about the origin of such a nation among Chechens: It is said that a long time ago, an Arab named Ali fled to the North Caucasus because of a felony. Here, Ali, an Arab, married and had children with the local people and began to live and reproduce. His descendants are called Nachi.

Ali, an Arab, is very talented. He is not only brave, but also witty and flexible, so he is very popular with local people, and many mountain people have begun to follow him. With the growing power, Ali's descendants finally led the local mountain people from the mountains to the coastal plains, and gradually formed a big nation, which is Chechens. According to this legend, Ali, an Arab, is the ancestor of Chechens.
