Where is the introduction to Taoism?
The origin of the name of Taoism lies in the ancient doctrine of Taoism, and in the Taoist teachings of Laozi, which were first described in the Laozi wuer zhi (Note to Laozi). Taoism worships Laozi as its master because the earliest origins of Taoist philosophical thought can be traced back to Laozhuang. It is worth noting that Taoism and Taoism are two distinctly different things. The Taoism taught by the Taoists is not a religion and does not advocate the establishment of a religion. Laozi is the source of Taoist thought, and was regarded as a "scripture" by Zhang Daoling and others in later times, not a scripture written by the "Supreme Lord Lao" for the purpose of preaching. It is generally believed that the first official classic of Taoism was the Taiping Jing, which was completed in the Eastern Han Dynasty, and therefore the Eastern Han Dynasty is regarded as the period of Taoism's beginnings. Taoism officially had Taoist entity activities in the late Eastern Han Dynasty with the emergence of Taiping Dao and Wudoumidao, and the three books, Taiping Jing, Zhouyi Sen Tongqi, and Laozi wan'er zhu, are the symbols of the formation of Taoist beliefs and theories. In recent years, the Taoist idea of "the unity of heaven and mankind" and the concept of the universe have been increasingly emphasized and have attracted the interest of the Western world, which has also made Taoism gain more attention. Although there is a component of Taoism in the teachings of Taoism, it is far from enough to represent the spirit of Taoism, far from enough to convey the thought of Laozhuang, and the two must not be confused.
The Taoist religion is called "Taoism", which means the doctrine of LaoZhuang, internal and external cultivation, and talismanic arts. It believes that all things in heaven and earth are generated by Tao, which is called "one life, two lives, three lives, and three lives", and that the society and the life of the people should act according to Tao, and return to the nature in the end. Specifically, the doctrine system is developed from four aspects, namely, "heaven", "earth", "man" and "ghost". Heaven refers to both the real universe and the place where the immortals reside. The heavenly realm is said to have thirty-six heavens, and heaven has a heavenly gate with a jade palace inside, inhabited by celestial gods, celestial honors, celestial emperors, riding celestial horses, drinking from the celestial river, and serving celestial soldiers, celestial generals, and celestial maidens. Its enshriner is the Way of Heaven. The earth refers to both the reality of the earth and all things, and the hell where ghosts suffer. Its operation is subject to the Way of the Earth. Man refers to both the human race in general and the limited individual. The words and deeds of human beings should be practiced in accordance with the human way and human virtues. Ghost refers to the place to which one belongs. If a person can cultivate good virtues, he can be transcended in the netherworld and get out of the sea of suffering, and his surname will not be recorded in the Ghost Pass, which is called the Ghost Immortal. Immortals, too, are the idolatrous embodiment of Taoist doctrinal thought. Taoism is a polytheistic religion, inherited the ancient Chinese for the sun, moon, stars, rivers, seas and mountains, as well as ancestral spirits of the dead are worshiped by the customary beliefs of the ancestors, forming a complex system of gods and goddesses, including the gods and goddesses of heaven, earth and ghosts. Taoism advocates the doctrine of Wuji, Yuanji, Taiji, and Zhongyong, which is the 'Way', the Middle Way.
There are two kinds of Taoists: one is the clergy, the "Taoist priests". According to the Taixiao Luangshu Jing, "People who walk the Way are called Taoist priests." According to "Taixiao Luanshu Jing", "people walk the road, called Taoist." "The body and mind is smooth, for the road is from, so called Taoist." They can be categorized according to the geographical area of Maoshan Taoist priests, Luofu Taoist priests and so on. From the teacher can be divided into the "first" Taoist priests, "Quanzhen" Taoist priests, and so on. According to the Palace in the Church can be divided into "when the family", "Hall master", "know the guest" and so on. The other is the general public, known as the "resident" or "believers. The "Gong Guan" is the most important form of Taoist organization. It is the place where Taoist priests practiced Taoism, worshipped the gods, and held ceremonies. Taoism also has a number of economic organizations (such as the vegetarian department, tea factory, etc.), educational organizations (Taoism classes, Taoist scripture classes, etc.), charitable organizations (old people's homes, the Department of medicine, etc.).
Taoism is an important religious act of Taoists practicing the Way of Heaven, which is generally regarded as having external elixir, internal elixir, food service and rooming-in. External Dan, refers to the use of Dan furnace or tripod burning lead and mercury and other minerals, the production of people can be served after "immortality" of the elixir. After the Tang Dynasty, it was gradually replaced by internal alchemy. Neidan, for the line of gas, guide, breathing and vomiting and so on the general term, refers to the use of the human body as a pot, so that the essence of the body condensed into dan and achieve the purpose of immortality. The art of internal alchemy has been gradually popular since the Jin Yuan Dynasty, and its origins date back to the Warring States Period, which has had a great influence on Chinese medicine and health science. The term "taking food" refers to the use of medicines to achieve immortality.
[edit]Taoism
Taoism is one of the major religions in China. It was formed during the Eastern Han Dynasty and flourished during the Northern and Southern Dynasties. Taoists honored one of its founders, Zhang Daoling, as the Heavenly Master, hence the name "Tao of the Heavenly Master". Later it was divided into many sects. Taoism worships Lao Zi as the ancestor of the religion, and honors him as "Taishang Laojun".
The name is derived from the belief that Taoism is the supreme belief, and that Taoism is the origin of all things in the universe. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Daoling founded the "Five-Double-Meter Road" as the beginning of the stereotyping of Taoism. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the form of the religion was gradually completed. Laozi was worshipped as the ancestor of the religion, and was honored as "Taishang Laojun". The Tao Te Ching (i.e. Lao Zi), the Zheng Yi Ching and the Taiping Dong Ching were the main classics. He worships the Three Pristine Ones as the highest god. Want people to detach themselves from reality and become immortal by alchemy.
The first national Taoist temple of Taoism was located at Shangqing Palace in Luoyang.
[edit]Historical Development of Taoism
China's ancient ancestors believed that everything has a spirit, which in turn gave rise to the worship of nature, the worship of totems, the worship of souls, the worship of ancestors, and slowly developed to the ancestors and the gods of the heavens, becoming the prototype of the supreme god. Worship of ghosts and gods existed as early as the primitive society. The ancestors will be the sun, moon and stars, wind, rain, thunder and lightning, mountains, rivers and mountains, are regarded as God's master, and thus produce a sense of awe, is the worship. At that time, the ancestors in addition to the belief that everything has a spirit and produce nature worship, but also think that the soul after death is not extinguished, and thus produced the worship of ghosts and gods. All kinds of funeral rites and rituals to sacrifice ghosts and exorcise ghosts were gradually formed. Bamboo Book Chronicle", "the collapse of the Yellow Emperor, his ministers Zuocher to take the clothes and crown a few staffs and temple rituals". To the Yin and Shang era, the prehistoric period of nature worship has developed to believe in God and the fate of heaven, the initial formation of God-centered sky god system, in case of trouble by the witch through divination to God to ask for an answer; primitive worship of ghosts and gods has been developed to the blood-based, and patriarchal relations with the combination of ancestor worship, and its ancestor worship activities are held on a regular basis. During this period, there were already religious professionals specializing in communicating between ghosts and gods and human beings - witches and wizards. Among them, the witches used songs and dances to subdue the gods and had a set of charms and spells to exorcise ghosts; the wizards used words to please the gods, and were responsible for welcoming the gods and praying for the masters of ceremonies in the religious ritual activities. They cured people's illnesses, divined their fortune, and drew charms and recited incantations. At that time, the state and society were dominated by the witch. The worship of ghosts and gods in the Zhou Dynasty was further developed, and the worship of ghosts and gods had already formed three systems, namely, heavenly gods, human ghosts and earthly gods and goddesses. And the worship of ancestors and gods and sacrifices to heaven and earth side by side, known as respect for heaven and ancestors. The so-called "everything is based on the sky, people are based on the ancestors.
The latter Taoism has become a polytheistic religion, which originates from the ancient worship of ghosts and gods; the latter Taoism does the rituals of the Jiao-festival, which is also closely related to the ancient rituals of ghosts and goddesses and the ceremonial system. People worship the gods will be held sacrifices, and sacrificial activities can not be separated from the "civilization of rituals and music", civilization of rituals and music with the Spring and Autumn period of the "rites and music", gradually from the upper level to the folk, was later inherited by the folk priests and wizards, after the establishment of Taoism, evolved into the Taoist Jiaojiao rituals. After the establishment of Taoism, it evolved into the Bun Festival of Taoism. Therefore, a considerable part of the ritual and music civilization of the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties was preserved by Taoism. Taoism is in fact the successor of the civilization of rituals and music. The belief in fairies can also be traced back to the ancient primitive society of China. One of the evidences for this is the Classic of Mountains and Seas. This sutra records the myths and religious beliefs of China's primitive society, and its content is quite rich and systematic. It provides the basis for the distant origin of Taoist Xianxue. In the Shanhaijing, the belief in longevity is put forward; the existence of gods and immortals and feathered warriors is proposed; the gods and immortals of Tiantu are described; and the sacrificial rites and exotic formulae for rituals are recorded.
In the ancient primitive society, there were people who started to learn about immortality. It is written that Emperor Xuanyuan "and war and learn the immortal", "Emperor Huang Di asked in Guangchengzi", after the success of cultivation, in the Dinghu white day by the dragon ascending to heaven.
By the time of the Warring States period, the belief in fairies was already quite widespread. This is, there appeared a lot of records of fairy legends of the writings, the book contains a lot of text about the legends of immortals, fairy realm, fairy medicine and so on. Such as "Zhuangzi - free travel" has this description: "contempt of the mountains of Gushu, there are gods living in, skin as ice and snow, nicknamed as a virgin, do not eat grains, sucking the wind and drinking dew, riding the clouds and gas, Royal Wind Dragon, and travel outside the four seas". Others, such as "Liezi" in the book of "Tang Qian chapter", "Yellow Emperor chapter", "Zhou Mu Wang", Qu Yuan's "Li Sao", "Heavenly Questions", "Nine Songs", etc. will be a wonderful and mysterious portrayal of the fairyland, and its immortals are also depicted as outside of life and death, extremely quiet, not for the material exhaustion, transcendent and free, able to fly in the clouds of magical characters. The Han Dynasty's "Huainanzi", "Historical Records" also has a similar description.
Along with the emergence of the doctrine of the immortals, the Fangshi, who sought the realm of the immortals, the immortals, and spread the formula for becoming an immortal, appeared. They softened the doctrine of immortality and the art of prescription with the doctrine of yin and yang and five elements of Zou Yan (a famous prescription doctor in the Warring States period) to form the Fangxian Dao, which was mainly popular among the upper class in Yan and Qi, and whose method was to solve the problem of pinning and relying on the ghosts and gods in the hope of living a long life and becoming immortal. From the middle and late Warring States period (275-221 BC) to the time of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty (Liu Che (140-87 BC)), the famous incident of going into the sea to seek immortality pills was instigated by the Fongshi (also known as the Immortalists) and the emperors and generals in Chinese history. King Wei of Qi, King Xuan of Qi and King Zhao of Yan, Emperor Qin Shi Huang, Emperor Wu of Han and so on had all sent their practitioners to the three sacred mountains in the sea to seek for immortals and immortality pills, and the scale of their endeavors was getting bigger and bigger. At that time, the most famous magicians were Song Bu Ji, Zheng Bo Qiao, Zou Yan, Xu Fu, Lu Sheng, Li Shao Jun and others. China's unique belief in immortals along the way, to the middle and late Eastern Han Dynasty for Taoism inherited, became the core of Taoist beliefs.
After Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, Fang Xian Dao gradually evolved towards Huang Lao Dao in combination with Huang Lao Studies. During the reign of Emperor Shun of the Eastern Han Dynasty (126-144), Zhang Ling founded Zhengyi Mengwei Dao at Heming Mountain in Shu County (in present-day Dayi County, Sichuan Province).
The late Han, Wei and Jin dynasties were an important period in the development of Taoism in China. The political climate of the end of the Han Dynasty and the social purchases of the Wei and Jin metaphysics directly affect the Taoist way of behavior and understanding of existence. Although they are out of the same awareness of the doctrine of Laozhuang, the way of behavior of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove and others has an important precedent wind of the important in the rules of behavior of the Taoist people. The political environment and social climate of the Wei and Jin dynasties were a rare opportunity and developmental boost for Taoism. Ge Hong, a famous scholar of Taoism in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, has an important position in the Taoist system, and Ge Hong himself is also regarded as an important figure in Taoism. It played an important role in the development of the Taoist school. The role of "Hug Park Zi" in Chinese Taoist medicine is also very important.
According to legend, at the beginning of the Tang Dynasty, a man named Ji Shanxing met an old man with white hair and riding a white horse. The old man said to him: tell the emperor of the Tang Dynasty, now the country is well governed, as long as the city of Chang'an East to build a Anhua Palace, inside the statue of the road, you can always protect the gods and god of the earth, the world is at peace. The old man then left the city. Soon, the old man again manifested, claiming: I am the supreme deity, surnamed Li, No. Laojun, is the ancestor of the current emperor. From then on, the Li Tang royal family claimed to be the descendants of Laozi Li'er, and honored Laozi as the "Holy Ancestor". Obviously, this myth was fabricated by the Tang royal family to add an aura of sanctity to the Li Tang regime. Later, the emperor of the Song Dynasty also followed the practice of the Tang Dynasty, fictional ancestor Zhao Xuan Lang, Zhao Xuan Lang, enshrined as a god of Taoism, honored as the "Holy Ancestor". Due to the Tang and Song royal family's reverence, the Palace of the great prosperity, the increasing number of believers, the development of Taoism to reach its peak.

The early Taoist classic "Taiping Jing" has "saints" and "sages" worship. The "Taoist Masters" of the "Supreme Mysteries" and "The True Records of the Immortals", "The True Spirits", "The Supreme Mysteries", etc., listed Yao, Shun and Yu as the three kings, Yin Tang, Zhou Wu, Qi Huan Gong, Han Gao Zu, Liu Bei and other emperors, and the sages Kong Qiu, Yan Hui, Mo Zhai, etc.
The three sages, Confucius, Yan Hui, Mo Zhai, etc., are the most important ones in the Taoist culture.
Third, the sectarian factors on the construction of Taoist gods and goddesses genealogy also has an important impact
Taoist sects are numerous, from the beginning of the creation of the religion, in the supreme supreme god on the differences.
Early five-doumei Taoism, when it was founded, to Taishang Laojun as the godfather, enshrined the "three officials", and thus the Wei, Jin, and North and South Dynasties, the Northern Wei Kou Qianzhi's Tao of the Heavenly Master, because of its enjoyment of the "Heavenly Master's position", by the "clean and tidy Taoism" of the order, the "Tao of the Heavenly Master". "The order, the cloud in the sound recitation of the new section of the commandments" 20 volumes, are false "Taishang Laojun" name, for this reason, he still worship Taishang Laojun has become inevitable.
When the Taiping Dao began to create the religion, the latter worshiped Huang Lao, worship "in Huang Taiyi". In the middle and late Eastern Jin Dynasty, Shangqing School, Lingbao School appeared one after another, the emergence of the "Shangqing", "Lingbao" in the scriptures, no longer honors the supreme god. Shangqing school to Yuan Shi Tian Zun or Taishang Yu Chen Daojun as the most respected, Lingbao school to Yuan Shi Tian Zun and Taishang Da Daojun status is the most prominent, some scriptures also listed Taishang Laojun, but its ranking status is a little lower.
Later, in the consultation between the various schools, the integration of the "Road can not be without a teacher, the Church can not be without a patriarch, so the Laojun master Taishang Yuchen Da Daojun yan, Da Daojun that is, the beginning of the Heavenly Father's disciples." The **** knowledge, it is in this master-disciple relationship, so that they become a trinity of "three gods" for the highest god in the genealogy of the Taoist gods and goddesses.
In addition, each faction has its own founder of the real person, the main deity.
Taoism absorbed a variety of primitive religions, folk religions, myths and legends, and gradually formed its own genealogy of the gods and immortals, and with the original local religions, or fusion, or the formation of the form of a branch.
Taoism is also constantly evolving, and from time to time it interacts with other religions and people's inclinations and aspirations.
