Biography and Details of Li Zhanwen
At the age of seventeen, he studied with the famous shadow artist Li Sanxi. In 1951, he worked in the Xi'an Municipal Federation of Literature. In 1952, he carved the figures of "The White-haired Girl" and "The Three Feuds", which were presented as gifts to West Germany and other countries. In 1960, he carved and painted a large shadow screen "Princess Wencheng Entering Tibet" for the Shaanxi Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In 1978, he created "The Legend of the White Snake" and "The Po Lin Lantern" and other shadow puppets, which were exhibited in the United States and Japan, and were highly praised. He has profound skills, sharp and versatile knife skills, refined character modeling, good use of exaggerated decorative techniques, bright and eye-catching coloring, and meticulous and exquisite carving. He has made positive contributions to the development of Shaanxi shadow puppets and the formation of their styles, and has accumulated more than a thousand kinds of shadow heads with different images. He is now working in Xianyang City Arts and Crafts Factory, and has been awarded as the city's advanced worker and model worker every year, and has been elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress.
