Reading methods and skills of CET-4 reading questions
Reading methods and skills of CET-4 reading question 1 Steps to do the problem: 50%-50% method.
The article is rich in content and information, and the titles are arranged in different orders, which is a great test for candidates' short-term memory. Candidates can use this method to deal with, specifically:
The first step is to read the first 1~4 paragraphs of the article, get the general idea of the article, and refine the core meaning (English keywords) of the paragraphs read.
The second step is to browse the five questions (not necessarily the first five questions), draw the core words of each sentence (note that they are not necessarily positioning words), and preliminarily judge whether they match the read paragraphs.
The third step is to draw the remaining core words that do not match the questions, and read them alternately with the rest of the articles until they are finished.
After reading the article, you can answer at least three true questions in Band 4.
2. Extraction method of sentence core words
Abstraction of sentence core words is one of the necessary skills in English reading and the only way to improve reading efficiency.
In order to acquire this ability, candidates need to understand the basic principles and practice a lot, but this ability is really worth cultivating.
Simply put, this method is somewhat similar to the practice of shortening sentences.
For example, in the real question of CET-4 in a certain year, when doing the question, you can quickly draw its core trunk on the sentence:
Airbnb's success clearly illustrates the emergence of a huge sharing economy.
So it can be simplified as the success of Airbnb ... an embrace of sharing economy, which is convenient for short-term search and memory when doing problems.
3. Interference paragraph exclusion method
Sometimes there will be two or more consecutive paragraphs telling the same question. At this time, candidates need to be accurate and comprehensive when refining the core words of sentences.
For example, question 52 in the true question of CET-4 in a certain year:
Airbnb is a website that enables owners and tenants to complete transactions online.
In addition to Airbnb and website, the core word of this sentence also includes online. If only the two core words Airbnb and website are drawn, then paragraph [b] is wrong. Both paragraphs [a] and [b] of the original text mentioned the problem of Airbnb.
Generally speaking, the interference paragraphs of this question type are mostly adjacent paragraphs from top to bottom, and candidates can distinguish them within this range.
4. Method of synonymous conversion of keywords
The methods of synonymous transformation include: changing parts of speech, words or phrases with the same or similar meanings, antonyms or phrases, sentence transformation, voice transformation and so on.
For example, question 55 in the true question of CET-4 in a certain year:
Sharing is attractive to sociable people because they can make new friends.
Obviously, the core word appeals to is synonymous with charm in paragraph [f]. Knowing new people is equivalent to knowing new people.
