Past lives of Weijia Courtyard

Speaking of the history of the Wei family courtyard, we have to start with Wei Zongchang, the ancestor of the Wei family. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, Wei Zongchang moved from Weifang, outside the west gate of Liancheng, Fujian, to Ganzhou, and was a typical Hakka who moved to Jiangxi. The Wei family made a fortune in timber and banking business, and was one of the four famous people in Ganzhou during the Republic of China. In its heyday, Jia Wei's money houses spread all over the country and declined in the late Republic of China.

Wei Family Courtyard was built by Wei Tianji, the nephew of Wei Zongchang, during the Jiaqing period of Qing Dynasty. In the thirty-first year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1905), Zheng, the wife of Wei Tianji's son, was born for a hundred years. To this end, the Wei clan built a magnificent and beautifully decorated ancestral hall to celebrate Zheng's birthday.

In the 20th century10s, two more houses were built on the west and north sides of the ancestral hall. At this point, the scale of Weijia Courtyard has been basically finalized, with 5 residential buildings, kitchen, stable, utility room 1, ancestral hall 1, 2 warehouses, 2 old-style Mongolian halls and a new school 1.

The main building of Jia Wei Courtyard covers an area of 3,000 square meters, plus ancestral halls, schools and other ancillary buildings, covering an area of more than 1.8 million square meters. All buildings are sealed with water mill blue bricks, with exquisite beams and finely carved wooden structures, which can be called the fine works of Ganzhou ancient buildings.

Life in Weijia Courtyard

Jia Wei Courtyard is the largest existing Hakka mansion in Qing Dynasty in Ganzhou and even the whole city, with high building quality and high research value.

Recently, the reporter visited Jia Wei Siheyuan to appreciate its charm. Wandering among them, I saw that the whole courtyard was fully functional, with reasonable layout, and houses, ancestral halls, stables, barns, schools and other buildings were readily available. The complete sealed volcanic wall, exquisite eaves carvings and exquisite wooden windows reflect the exquisite craftsmanship of Ganzhou in the Qing Dynasty.

Due to various reasons, the Weijia Courtyard, as a historical and cultural heritage, has not been effectively protected in recent decades. The yard is full of illegal buildings. Although most of the main structures are well preserved, due to years of disrepair, tiles, walls, wood structures, sculptures and other serious damage, courtyard landscape space and other important elements no longer exist. In recent years, some experts and scholars in our city have called for the restoration of the Wei Family Courtyard as soon as possible to reflect its due value and historical position.

2065438+April 2008, Ganzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government officially started the renovation project of Jia Wei Courtyard, with a total investment of 267 million yuan. The renovation work is based on the quadrangle architecture layout in Jia Wei Siheyuan Genealogy, respecting the original history, rebuilding the ancestral temple, restoring the traditional quadrangle unit, restoring the architectural texture and roadway scale, reappearing the quadrangle pattern in the heyday of Jia Wei Siheyuan, and showing the inheritance style to the greatest extent.

2065438+March 2009, the renovation project of the core area of Jia Wei Courtyard passed the completion acceptance and won the title of "Jiangxi Cultural Relics Protection Unit".

From 20 19 to 12, Jia Wei Courtyard was opened as "Gannan Hakka Culture Museum".

In order to better protect and inherit Gannan Hakka culture, the Jia Wei Courtyard was renovated and the Gannan Hakka Culture Museum was built. The total investment of the museum exhibition project is 9 million yuan. The exhibition methods mainly include words, pictures, charts, cultural relics, scene reproduction, modern holography and other multi-angle and multi-form display of Hakka production and life scenes in Gannan. The contents of the exhibition include the cradle of love (the origin of Hakka in southern Jiangxi), living in a family (Hakka clan and society), a flower in bloom (Hakka folk art), and being passed down from generation to generation (Hakka spirit and the inheritance and development of Hakka culture in southern Jiangxi).

Today, this Jia Wei quadrangle, full of traces of prosperity and vicissitudes of the past, has been renovated and once again opened its doors to welcome guests from all directions.
