Why is "Mountain Flowing Water" the most famous and representative piece of traditional guzheng?

Why is the guzheng song "Mountain Flowing Water" famous? "Mountain Flowing Water", a guqin song of Han nationality, belongs to one of the top ten ancient songs in China. It is said that Boya, a pianist in the pre-Qin period, once played the piano on a barren land, but Zhong Ziqi, a woodcutter, could understand that this was a description of "towering like Mount Tai" and "surging like a river". Boya was shocked: "Well, the child's heart is the same as mine." After Zhong Ziqi's death, Boya lost her bosom friend, broke the piano, and never played it for life, so there was a song of high mountains and flowing water.

"High mountains and flowing water" is a metaphor for bosom friends and music. A piece of music, with its own story, can move more people's emotions, which may be the reason why it is famous.

"High Mountains and Flowing Water" was originally a film. Since the Tang Dynasty, Mountain and Running Water have been divided into two independent piano pieces. Among them, the song "Running Water" got more development in modern times, and its music score was first seen in "Magic Secret Spectrum" in Ming Dynasty (written by Zhu Quan at 1425). The flowing water played by Mr. Guan Pinghu was recorded in the golden record of American space probe Voyager-1, and was launched into space on August 22, 1977/kloc-0, looking for human "bosom friends" in the vast universe.

There are two kinds of "high mountains and flowing water": guqin music and guzheng music. The original "Mountain Flowing Water" has long been lost, and the existing repertoire is entrusted by future generations. Even so, the "mountain" makes you seem to see its majestic ups and downs; "Running Water" makes you feel that the priorities have a long history, and the gurgling is constantly cold. They are indeed the epitome of "freehand brushwork" in China's traditional philosophy, and can be called famous songs.
