Ancient buildings: what materials are used for pavilions? Wood lacquer. What paint?
China has always called architecture civil engineering, and the architecture department of the university has long been called civil engineering, which makes it clear that the main building materials of traditional ancient buildings are soil and wood, not necessarily high-density wood, except for some special-purpose wood (such as cypress trees, used as yin houses), which are generally all kinds of wood.
As for the lacquer used, it is raw lacquer produced by sumac tree, also called local lacquer or national lacquer, which is a kind of natural lacquer. Rhus verniciflua was planted in ancient China. The phloem of the trunk of Rhus verniciflua was cut open, and the milky viscous liquid was collected. The lacquer obtained after filtering out impurities was raw lacquer. This is a specialty of China. The main component is urushiol, as well as laccase, gum, nitrogen-containing substances and water. When coloring is needed, raw lacquer is mixed with pigment.
