Knowing the world one what is the ultimate ideal
I often hear people ask people around me, in the workplace, in the world, what is the ultimate ideal? According to the Beijing dialect, what is the most awesome? If I answer directly, the answer is shameless:
My ultimate ideal is - immortality.
It's possible that you're listening over there on your cell phone right now, having already spewed out your breakfast, dinner, and lunch together. Chances are you're younger than me and will say, you want to be immortal, you're crazy! What are you thinking? --Yes, I do want to be immortal.
Immortality and immortality
I thought when I was very young that I could make the world a little bit better, that I could make the world a little bit better through my actions, through my words, through my writings, through my project management, through the team that I led. In another hundred, two hundred, three hundred years, there will still be people reading my articles, there will still be people listening to my methodology, there will still be people whose lives have been made a little bit easier and a little bit better because of the hospitals that I have built, the things that I have done, and that's what the sages of the past taught.
People can be different, and possibly, these ideas about immortality are a delusion. It doesn't matter, I've already lived fifty years and still have a delusional idea, and I can keep going for another ten or twenty years, and I think that's fine. You think this delusion of mine is bad, but I turn around and say that there is no delusion at all, it's just that every day you want to live well, every day you live comfortably, and you don't actually necessarily live well.
I know an older brother who seems to have no desires. He went to a very good college in his life, went to Peking University, and when he got out he told his family, I really don't want to work, I can survive on a hundred dollars a month, I'll find that hundred dollars. I think that's very good, no problem.
One day, I drank with this old man, he drank too much, stood in the door of the restaurant suddenly loudly roared to the sky, roared seven or eight voices. I was listening to him from a doctor's point of view, and I had to say, he didn't have a job, he didn't work, he chose to just live every day, he chose to just live every day, in fact, this choice, ten years, twenty years, thirty years have passed, it didn't eliminate the pain in his heart, and I think that there is still a very bitter place in his heart.
In fact, my own brother is another version of the old brother just now. He retired at forty, right on the beach, facing the ocean, in the spring, and has been there ever since. I might work eighty to a hundred hours a week, he might work three to eight hours a week, and I envy him, and he's very ...... envious of me, and he might envy me, and he might not envy me at all, and the two of us don't talk about that specifically. But the old brother I just talked about -- not me, this real brother, this old brother who hasn't done a day's work since graduating from Peking University -- is a lot closer to life than my real brother, that is, he's never worked, it's all life.
What I'm trying to say is two layers:
The first layer, I want to be immortal, you may want to be immortal quickly, that's the difference between you and me.
The second level is that if you want to be immortalized quickly, you may not be able to completely relieve the suffering in your heart; and if you want to be immortalized, like me, you may not necessarily be suffering all the time in your heart.
Being a monk for a day and ringing a bell for a day are not the same as crossing a river with a reed and propagating the Dharma, nor is it necessarily the case that anyone will be able to live more quickly.
What to do with the rest of your life
Next, a little survey I did.
I occasionally ask my male friends of different ages:
What is your greatest hope for the rest of your life? What do you want for the rest of your life, so to speak.
I suddenly realized that some guys around me, although he may not propose "immortality", but his ultimate pursuit, in the final analysis, hope to be immortal.
So from a certain point of view, it is possible that these boys are controlled by a certain segment of their genes. Spring goes to fall, and the stars change, but there are still the names of those who lived and died, floating in the streets where they stood tall as virgins; and there are still individual golden phrases, hackneyed sayings, quotations, novels, deeds, movie and television lines that still flow through their bodies.
Still, no matter what he says, he still wants to be able to brag and excel.
Quite a few guys do, he likes to pursue immortality, so what do women want for the rest of their lives?
I have a lot of very strong women around me, very strong female friends, I ask them, so you are now more than thirty / you are now more than forty / you are now more than fifty / you are now more than twenty, what do you want to pursue for the rest of your time, what do you think is the most bragging thing? I do my best to be pure in heart and purely curious when I ask them, and I try to remain as calm as a questioner can be.
The ultimate question of what women think they want to do with the rest of their lives and what they think is the most awesome thing they can do is answered by women in a much more diverse way than men.
Women's answers, at best, were to feel safe. Some of them with a sense of humor would also say that the most awesome thing is to be securely endowed for a lifetime, and this type of answer morphed into, the most awesome thing is to have love in your life, to love and be loved, for a lifetime. There were also some girls who answered simply and directly that the most awesome thing was to be married to a husband who was handsome, always handsome, and continually more handsome. There are also girls who are a little less inhibited than the boys, saying that the most awesome thing is that I can do whatever I want, and everything I do is modeled and decent. There are also girls who respond by saying, I want to pamper, the contortions of which include, most awesome of all, pampering my children to be awesome, pampering the man I love to be awesome, pampering my country to be awesome, cuddling, kissing, lifting high, spinning around, or being cuddled, kissed, lifted high, and spun around in circles. It's also true that there are some girls that are similar to these males I just mentioned, the ultimate oxymoron or immortality, to make a mark, to do something that the vast majority of people can't do, to do something that makes millions of pairs of hands scream and applaud me, to make my reputation spread farther than my body, etc.
The Ultimate Confusion
Combining the male and female answers to this ultimate question of what is the most awesome for men and what is the most awesome for women, the ultimate confusion I feel is - Lidl.
If we say that the ultimate ideal of doing things is immortality, immortality is the establishment of virtue, speech and merit, speech and merit is well understood, you leave a part of the work is to make a speech, you leave a canal is to make a merit, the establishment of virtue, "morality" "virtue", what exactly is it?
In fact, I even thought about this issue for more than ten years, I even wrote a miscellaneous article, what is the virtue in the end, I always feel that article did not write through, I made up for it, I think of it this way: the virtue is wisdom, compassion, beauty, wisdom is the three concepts, methodology, in and out of the proportion, including the management of the spirit and flesh, as well as emotions, and so on. What is compassion? Compassion is kindness, the bottom line, empathy, something not to do and something to do, and so on. What is beauty? Beauty is the perception and appreciation of the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, a combination of pleasures, indefinable, but just knowable.
If you are able to establish yourself as a virtuous person, with wisdom, compassion, and a sense of beauty, the probability of success of your speech and achievements will be much higher. It is true that there are a few geniuses who can still speak lotus flower even if they can't establish their virtue, and a few lucky people can still make things happen, but this kind of speech and success often can't be sustained, and I can't even end up in a good place.
From this understanding, if you can pass the above morality to your descendants, this family may be more than ten generations of bulls; the habit of cultivation and study, we have talked about the habit in other lessons, get up early, hard-working, "biting the root of the vegetable, all things can be done", cultivation and study, and so on, passed on to the next generation, I hope that they can be simple to keep the success, and the next generation, I hope they can be simple to keep the success. It is possible to be bullish to six to ten generations; the ability to read and write books is passed on to future generations in the hope that they will make a speech, it is possible to be bullish to three generations; wealth and power is passed on to future generations in the hope that they will make a success, we have often heard the saying - "wealth is not three generations", which means that if you just pass on wealth and power to your offspring, you will not be able to make a success. That is to say, if you just pass on wealth and power to future generations, can not stay.
Confucianism is an elitist education, expounding on officials and scholars, not ordinary people. Ordinary people don't need to establish virtue, it's good to be a self-reliant and kind person.
The Great Taboo of Being a Human Being
Well, as I said earlier, the ultimate ideal is immortality, and the foundation of immortality is the establishment of virtue. So the next question is:
What is the biggest pitfall on your road to immortality? What is the biggest pitfall in being a human being?
Zeng Guofan said something like, "We build each other up, we should take the sound of the past as a cut and dried." This sentence is very important, what does it mean? That is, do not virtue does not match the position, do not wave false reputation, must worry every day about their own is not virtue does not match the position.
The reputation, in fact, difficult to match, in the eyes of Zeng Guofan is a big taboo. The name is more than the truth, time will appear a what consequences, people will be the name of the pressure, will be jealous of other people to die, or by people to find the name does not match the place ridiculed to death.
Today is not as good as in the old days, people's hearts are not ancient, nowadays there are economic benefits to having a name, the name of the past in the eyes of many people now is a good thing to ask for. Can earn a day's money, is a day's money, after tomorrow, which cares about the flood, to become famous before it's too late, everyone is in a hurry. Occasionally look at the works of these people who are in a hurry to become famous before it's too late, I only have "huh" in my heart, no insights, no heaven and earth, such a set of fame, such as dreams and bubbles, such as fog and electricity.
In fact, before doing "Feng Tang into a matter of heart", I also often think, by what I do, should I do, why do others want to listen? In fact, I considered is, is not the virtue does not deserve the position, I deserve to speak this question? I thought about it, I've been working at McKinsey for ten years; I've been reading Oriental management wisdom for thirty years, or even thirty-five years, or even forty years; I've been practicing management for twenty years; and I've been writing books, and I've got a relatively strong ability to express myself, both verbally and in writing, so I think I'm worthy of doing this. I looked around to see if there was a more suitable general management tutorial for China, but I didn't see one. I'm sorry, but I'm going to risk universal condemnation and think that I'm worthy of it, and I'm going to talk about "Feng Tang's Way of Making Things Happen".
Finally, to summarize:
For those who want to be successful, it is possible that immortality is the ultimate pursuit. On the path to immortality, it is possible that virtue is not worthy of the position and is the greatest taboo. If virtue is not worthy of immortality, it is likely that the thunder that will split you is already on its way, and this is the biggest trap, the biggest taboo, and I hope you will be alerted to it. I hope I have spoken clearly, I hope you understand, and I hope you have high aspirations, not just waiting for death, reach, not reach, is another issue. The sage's ambition, first set up a chant, in case God gives you the opportunity to reach it.
