What is family old age
When Prof. Fei Xiaotong talked about the concept and entity of the family in his early years, he obviously emphasized the dual relationship between husband and wife (marriage) and parent-child relationship (blood relationship). Family old age, in a nutshell, is the combination of "old age at home" and "old age of children". In China, family old age is usually interpreted as being supported by children, and more often by sons. The Chinese Constitution states: "Parents have the duty to bring up and educate their children, and adult children have the duty to support and assist their parents." This is a legal paraphrase of the Eastern model of antiparenting. In the final analysis, the essence of old-age care is who provides the resources for old-age care, which is the most important criterion for us to differentiate between old-age care modes, and it can also be seen that family old-age care is relative to social old-age care. Therefore, in essence, the family old-age care refers to the old-age care and old-age care system in which the family members provide the old-age care resources.
(2) The traditional status of family old-age care
China has always been dominated by Confucianism, and the traditional mode of "family old-age care" has been formed over a long period of time, which has made the support of the elderly an unshirkable responsibility for the people of the country, and "raising children for the sake of old age", "parenthood is not the only way to protect the elderly", and "parents are here, not the other way around". The saying, "Raise children for old age", "Parents are here, don't travel far", and "Filial piety is the first of all deeds" are all reflections of the filial piety ethic in people's daily lives. Parents raise their children, and children must support their elderly parents; otherwise, they will be condemned by moral public opinion, which is the "feedback model" of China's old-age pension proposed by Prof. Fei Xiaotong in 1983. This kind of filial piety culture as the traditional way of support, for more than two thousand years has been directly undertaken by the family unit, has long been y rooted in the thinking of the people of China.
