History of Xichang, Sichuan

Xichang, is the capital of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture.

Xichang has a long history and has been the economic, political, military and cultural center of Southwest China since ancient times, as well as a pearl on the Southern Silk Road. During the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, the Qiang people established their own "Qiong" tribe here, and since the Qin and Han dynasties, the central government has set up counties here and appointed officials to manage the area.

After the liberation, for the Xichang Prefecture Commissioner's Office, approved by the State Council in 1978 to abolish the Xichang area, and into the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, the state capital of Xichang City.
