Youth Olympic Games Traditional sports of member countries

The inaugural Youth Summer Olympics is scheduled to be held in Singapore in August 2010, with some 3,200 athletes, 800 referees and coaches taking part in the event. The competition will last for 12 days and the events have been finalized in principle into 26 major sports. At the same time, all National and Regional Olympic Committees will also be represented in the educational and cultural programs of the Youth Summer Olympics. The age of athletes participating in the Junior Olympics is between 14 and 18 years old, as determined by each international single sport organization. The IOC has simply laid down the principle that only one age group can be selected for competition in each sport, e.g. 14 to 15, 15 to 16 or 17 to 18 age groups. The first Youth Winter Olympics will then be held in 2012.

The Youth Olympic Games project setting has been determined in principle, it includes swimming (diving, swimming), archery, athletics, badminton, basketball (Olympic sports basketball or street basketball), boxing, rowing, cycling (scooters, mountain bikes), equestrian (steeplechase), fencing, soccer, gymnastics, handball, field hockey, judo, modern pentathlon, rowing, windsurfing, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, Tennis, triathlon, volleyball (indoor or beach volleyball), weightlifting, wrestling (women's freestyle wrestling, men's classical wrestling) and other 26 major sports.

In addition to sports competitions, the Youth Olympic Games focus more on educational and cultural activities during the Games. This includes educational interactions and forums on Olympic values, discussing how young people can become true sportsmen and women through healthy lifestyles and against drug use. The interactive events will feature famous champions and international experts from the worlds of education, sport and culture, who will use their vast experience to directly instruct young athletes on how to deal with relevant social issues, among other things. The events will also be interactive with the outside world through webchats and blogs.

Cultural activities will be combined with Olympic symbolic ceremonies (torch relay, playing of the national anthem, raising of the national flag, etc.) to spread the Olympic spirit and emphasize Olympic values. There will also be multicultural urban art, street music celebrations and movie screenings to complement the Youth Olympic Games.

The IOC will also draw the attention of young people around the world to the Youth Olympic Games through the use of the latest communications media, such as e-digital platforms, to communicate with them before and after the Games.
