Cultural Tradition of Changsha Institute of Social Work

Love the people, be kind, knowledgeable and practical.

The Analects of Confucius, written in the language of "loving the people and benevolence", is a basic content of China's traditional morality. Confucius said, "Disciples are filial, and younger brothers are younger. They sincerely believe that they love people all the time, but they are kind. If you have spare capacity, you think it is a text. " Really, it's very common to do it. People who believe! What they said is true. Pan, Kuan Ye. The masses are the masses. Honey, it's close. Benevolence means benevolence. Save your energy and talk about leisure. Same, same also. Wen is the text of six arts of poetry and calligraphy. Confucius warned his disciples with this sentence: "A person with morality, character and virtue must first love others. If he doesn't love others, he can't be human, let alone be kind." Confucius exhorted love: Fan Chi asked "benevolence" and Confucius answered "love" (The Analects of Yan Yuan). This is the so-called "benevolent love". "Love the people and be kind to others" has become the highest realm of standing and learning.

"erudite and practical" is how to practice the methodology of "loving people and being kind". In response to Chapter 19 of The Doctrine of the Mean, it says, "Be knowledgeable and interrogate, think carefully, distinguish clearly and stick to it." This is about several levels of learning, or several progressive stages. "erudition" means that in order to learn, we must first search widely and cultivate rich and exuberant curiosity. "Bo" also means broad and inclusive. So erudition can be the first stage of learning, interrogation is the second stage, reflection is the third stage, debate is the fourth stage, and perseverance is the last stage of learning. "Dedication" means loyalty, firmness, singleness and perseverance. Only people with clear goals and firm will can truly "persevere". Taking "erudition and perseverance" as the school motto is not just taking the words "erudition" and "perseverance", but the internal unity, connection and interaction process from "erudition" to "perseverance" including "interrogation, careful thinking and discernment". Civil affairs people should be "old and old, and people are old; We are still young, we are still young. It is our responsibility to "be a family in the world". Unless we have extraordinary skills, we can't shoulder this heavy responsibility. Only by taking "being knowledgeable and persevering" as the way of learning can we learn something, achieve something and make use of it, and "loving the people and being kind" will not become a slogan and become a mere formality.
