April 18 of the lunar calendar is the westward migration festival.

Westward migration festival is the anniversary of Xibe people's westward migration to the frontier. Because the time is April 18 of the lunar calendar, it is called "April 18". It is also called "Mother's Day" because of missing relatives, and it is called "Du Baiyin transferred to Kunming" by Xibe compatriots in Xinjiang. Every year on April 18th of the lunar calendar, Xibo people in Xinjiang will get together, have a picnic and perform songs and dances to commemorate the heroic achievements of their ancestors in guarding the border.

The origin of the westward migration festival:

/kloc-Before the 6th century, Xibe ancestors lived in Songnen Plain and Hulunbeier Grassland for generations. According to historical records, on April 18th, 29th, Gan Long, the Qing government recruited 1, 0 18 Xibo officers and men from Shengjing and other places, and together with 3,275 family members, led by Manchu officials, moved westward to settle down and guard the border in Yili, Xinjiang.

The next morning, Xibo officers and soldiers and their families bid farewell to their hometown and embarked on a long journey to the west. After a year and five months of arduous trek, I arrived in Yili, Xinjiang.

Chabuchar Xibe Autonomous County was their place of residence in those days, and Xibe there was their descendant. From then on, every year on the 18th day of the fourth lunar month, people will cook stoves, kill pigs and eat sorghum rice in the temple, and every household will have a dinner to commemorate the historical feat of Xibe ancestors' westward migration, narrate their achievements in defending the northwest frontier of the motherland and cherish the memory of their lost compatriots. This day has become a traditional festival of Xibe nationality.
