Characteristics and Significance of Confucian Temple Architecture in Changchun

The Confucian Temple in Changchun was founded in the 11th year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1872). According to historical records, the Confucian Temple in Changchun was originally built with donations from local squire Zhu Chen. In the 21st year of Guangxu (1894) and 1924, Yang Tonggui, the magistrate of Changyuan County, presided over two large-scale maintenance and expansion. There has been a touching scene of "the ancient elm trees towering in front of the door, flowers and plants, Chi Pan like a crescent moon, Hongqiao flying"

architectural feature

At that time, the Confucian Temple occupied an area of about 10000 square meters, with towering old trees in front of it, flowers and plants all over the altar, a pan pool with a Hongqiao ruler at the door, and a tall and spectacular Xingxingmen on the bridge, 7 or 5 meters high. It is 8 meters wide, and the words "Xing Xing Men", "Borrowing Earth" and "Must" are written on the gatehouse. The handwriting is vigorous and tall. After entering the gate, the Intermediate People's Court is Dacheng Hall, the main building of the Confucian Temple. It was magnificent and solemn in those days, and the memorial tablets of Confucius and his disciples were enshrined in the hall. The West Courtyard is Confucius Temple, and the East Courtyard is Mencius Temple and Wenchang Pavilion. Wenchang Pavilion is a library. In the long historical period before the founding of New China, all cities with a certain scale should build Confucius temples to respect and carry forward Confucianism represented by Confucius. After more than a hundred years of historical dust, Changchun Confucian Temple can still see the magnificent architectural pattern of that year.

The Confucian Temple in Changchun is a three-step antique building surrounded by halls and gates: from south to north, it consists of Zhaobi, Chi Pan, Panqiao, Xingxingmen, East-West Dressing Hall, Confucius Temple 9, Mencius Temple, East-West Attached Hall, Dacheng Gate, Dacheng Hall and Chongsheng Temple. The overall layout is rigorous and patchwork.

Sacrifice to Confucius

In the Confucian Temple, every year in February and August of the lunar calendar, a ceremony of offering sacrifices to Confucius is held in front of the terrace in front of Dacheng Hall. Local civil and military officials and teachers and students of the school prostrated themselves before the statue of the sage, and the scene was quite spectacular. The main purpose of the ceremony is to show people traditional culture in the form of ceremony. The six movements of Li spoke highly of Confucius' great life and praised his profound Confucianism and its enlightenment to the whole social civilization. The ceremony does not stick to the grand sacrificial scenes and gorgeous sacrificial vessels in ancient times, but focuses on stimulating people's sense of identity and pride in national culture. Changchun Confucian Temple participates in the global activities of offering sacrifices to Confucius every year, just to show the world the charm of Changchun Cultural City.

After a series of restoration and expansion in recent years, Changchun Confucian Temple has now developed into a historical and cultural block of Changchun Confucian Temple (Confucius Cultural Park). It is not only a historical witness of Changchun's cultural education for a hundred years, but also a powerful position to publicize China's excellent traditional culture and carry forward the main theme.
