Chinese myths originated from the traditional myths of the ancient times, reflecting the simple thoughts of the early Chinese ancestors and expressing their good wishes for conquering nature and changing society.

Because of the relatively low level of productivity at that time, people could not scientifically explain the origin of the world, natural phenomena and the contradictions and changes in social life, so they anthropomorphized natural phenomena and social life with the help of fantasies, and the stories that were expressed through supernatural images and fantastical forms became myths and legends.

The characters in the myths and legends include all kinds of natural gods, deified ancient sages and heroes, which express the good wishes of the Chinese forefathers to conquer the nature and change the society.
