Basic function of orthosis
(1) Stability and support: Maintain joint stability and restore bearing or athletic ability by limiting abnormal movements of limbs or trunk.
(2) Fixation and correction: For the deformed limbs or trunk, fix the diseased parts to correct the deformity or prevent the deformity from getting worse.
(3) Protection and exemption from load: By fixing the affected limb or joint, the abnormal movement is restricted, and the normal alignment relationship between limb and joint is maintained. For the load-bearing joints of lower limbs, the long-term load bearing can be reduced or exempted.
(4) Compensation and assistance: some devices, such as rubber bands, springs, etc., are used to provide power or energy storage to compensate for the lost muscle function, or to give some assistance to the weak parts of muscles to assist limb activities or paralyze limb activities.
