Handmade tie-dye process

Handmade tie-dye production process is as follows:

Preparation of materials: blank cloth, string: (used to tie the cloth with ), chopsticks: (used to stir), dyes, disposable gloves: (to prevent the dye from getting on your hands)

Steps:

1. white blank cloth into boiling water for about ten minutes. After boiling put it in cool water and wash it twice until the water is clear. Fish it out and dry it in the sun. Then tie it with a string.

2, dye pot with water to put dye. Put the treated cloth and cook for 30 minutes. After boiling, fish out and put it in the water.

3, wash off the floating color. Finished.

History of tie-dye:

Tie-dyeing is known as "stranded val" or "handful of val" "handful of halo val", commonly known as "handful of flowers". Commonly known as "handful of flowers", is an ancient dyeing and printing techniques, mainly popular in China's many ethnic minorities. As China's national intangible cultural heritage, tie-dyeing has great national characteristics and is one of the outstanding national cultural arts, which is widely favored in the world.

Tie-dye culture has a long history and has existed and developed in many ethnic groups in the world. Tie-dye originated in the Yellow River basin of China, and tie-dye products appeared as early as the Qin and Han dynasties. The tie-dye process matured during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and reached its peak in the Tang Dynasty, then declined due to the restrictions imposed by the ruling class of the Song Dynasty and the social instability of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but it has regained its development in modern times.

Tie-dyeing process is based on drawing patterns on white dyeable fabrics and then tying them with threads, or sewing and tying the fabrics with needle and thread combined with the requirements of pattern, so that the dyeing liquid can not penetrate to create the white and dyeing patterns, which are able to form a color halo and unique texture effects. Tie-dye results in unique patterns, color harmony, rich layers, with the characteristics of chance and uniqueness. The main popular genres are Han tie-dye, Bai tie-dye, Yi tie-dye, modern tie-dye, Japanese tie-dye, Indian tie-dye and so on.

In 2006 and 2008, the Bai Tie & Dye technique of Dali, Yunnan Province, and the Zigong Tie & Dye technique of Sichuan Province were successively listed by the Ministry of Culture as national intangible cultural heritages.38 In 2007, Zhang Shishen, of Zhoucheng, Dali, Yunnan Province, was identified as a Tie & Dye national intangible heritage bearer.39 In 2013, Jiao Bao'lin, of Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, was identified as a Tie & Dye provincial-level intangible heritage bearer.10 Tie & Dye Technique It has a long history and is full of aesthetic interest as well as national and regional characteristics, forming a unique artistic style.
