2. Snow

Snow is solid water, which falls from the mixed clouds to the ground in the form of snowflakes. Snowfall only occurs under the influence of very cold temperatures and extratropical cyclones, so the probability of snowfall in subtropical and tropical areas is relatively small.

3. Frost

Rime, commonly known as tree hanging, is a milky white ice crystal deposit formed by direct condensation of water vapor in the air at low temperature or direct freezing of supercooled water droplets on objects. This is a rare natural wonder in winter.

Rime is not ice or snow, but the result of fog on branches and other objects freezing below zero degrees Celsius and viscous water vapor piling up with the wind, which shows as white opaque granular structure deposits. The formation of rime requires low temperature and sufficient water vapor, and it is even more rare to have these two extremely important and contradictory natural conditions for the formation of rime.

Characteristics of winter:

Feature 1: Cold

Winter is the coldest season of the year. The outdoor temperature will reach minus 10-20℃ in winter in the north, and the cold winter will cause the river to freeze. People will wear thick cotton-padded clothes, gloves, scarves and hats to keep out the cold.

Feature 2: It snows

It snows only in winter. It's white here, the air is fresh and comfortable, it's usually very cold when it snows, and there are no animals crying. The snow in the south is like small particles, and the snow in the north is like tearing cotton, which is big and dry. Ice will hang on the low eaves.

Feature 3: Short days and long nights.

Compared with summer, winter is characterized by short days and long nights. The winter solstice is the longest and shortest day in the northern hemisphere, and it has entered a "cold day" since the winter solstice. After the solstice of winter, day and night will gradually become the same length.

Feature 4: Animals hibernate.

When cold weather comes, animals can't maintain the constant body temperature needed for normal activities, so they have to find a place to hide and hibernate and spend the cold winter. Hibernation of animals is actually a process of energy conservation. Their body function slows down, and their breathing, body temperature, metabolism and heart rate will all drop. For animals, hibernation is an intuition, and they think they should do it.
