China traditional music is tonal, just like Chinese. In Chinese, a pronunciation has four tones: flat, sliding from bass to treble, or sliding from treble to bass, or both. These four tones make Chinese different from any other western language. Just as in China's music, there are more tones to represent different meanings.

As we all know, western music consists of seven notes. Although ancient China people used only five notes to compose music and songs, they had so many tunes to make the five notes sound different. These five notes are Gong, Shang, Jiao, Zhi and Yu.

Music in China is different from music in other parts of the world. To show its beauty, only China's musical instruments can do the best. According to the production materials, Chinese musical instruments can be divided into eight categories. Use reeds and gourds to make sheng, bamboo to make flute, wood to make harp, clay to make flute, metal to make bell, stone to make ringing stone and skin to make drum.

The music I brought to class was called "Mountains and Rivers". From this name, you can imagine a harmonious picture, with green hills around you and clear streams flowing quietly under your feet. The music is played by China Guzheng, a flat stringed instrument with thirteen strings on it. "Mountain Flowing Water" is a treasure in China's music treasure house. Music is slow and quiet, sometimes as rhythmic as running water. This is a song praising the lifelong friendship between the guzheng master Boya and Zhong Ziqi. It means that it is not easy for a person to find a true friend who can share everything and understand each other's feelings. This piece of music takes majestic mountains and flowing streams as images, showing grandeur, strength and sublimity. It is also a full display of superb performance skills.
