Which is better, optical fingerprint or ultrasonic fingerprint? Distinguish between contrast, advantages and disadvantages

From 20 18, many domestic mobile phones began to use screen fingerprint recognition. At present, there are two main technologies for screen fingerprint: optical fingerprint and ultrasonic fingerprint. Then the question is, what is the difference between photosensitive fingerprints and ultrasonic fingerprints, and which is better?

Optical fingerprint

Optical fingerprint identification is a very mature technology, and its principle is very simple. The fingerprint ring is mainly detected by light reflection.

Advantages: mature technology and low cost. There are few peripheral circuits and many suppliers: Xinsi, Ding Hui, Samsung, etc.

Disadvantages: only support organic light-emitting diode screen, not LCD screen, general recognition rate, low security. Organic light emitting diode (OLED) is used as the light source, and the image sensor receives the finger reflection to generate the fingerprint image. The OLED screen will inevitably age, and the recognition rate will decline after one or two years of use. In addition, dirty fingers or in the sun will affect the recognition rate. Low security, can be unlocked by copying fingerprints.

Ultrasonic fingerprint

At present, there are few mobile phones with ultrasonic fingerprint, and the representative model is Samsung S 10 series. Principle: Fingerprint images are obtained by reflection of ultrasonic waves.

Advantages: high recognition rate, high security and no need for bright screen. Strong ultrasonic penetration, unaffected by light, high stain resistance, and can recognize wet and dirty fingers.

Disadvantages: high cost and single supplier. At present, only Qualcomm has mass production capacity, and ultrasonic fingerprint needs high-voltage driving, and the circuit is complex, and the cost is much higher than that of optical fingerprint.

Summary:

Through the above comparison, ultrasonic fingerprint is much better than optical fingerprint, but it is generally only used on high-end mobile phones because of its complex structure, few suppliers and low cost.
