On June 29th, 2022, "Fujian Brown Sugar Making Skills" declared by Jiangle County, Sanming City, Fujian Province was listed in the seventh batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage representative projects in Fujian Province.
Fujian brown sugar production technology is a traditional skill in Jiangle County, Sanming City, Fujian Province, and it is one of the provincial intangible cultural heritages in Fujian Province. The production technology of Jiangle brown sugar originated in Tang and Song Dynasties and flourished in Ming Dynasty. According to the Records of Jiangle County, brown sugar originated from Huangtan Capital.
At the end of Qing Dynasty, Heping Village, Jishan, Gaotang and other places in Jiangle County had the habit of planting sugar cane to cook brown sugar. So in the 29th year of the Republic of China (1940), officials and businessmen cooperated to establish Minsheng Sugar Factory. It is said that Gaotan (pond) produces tens of thousands of kilograms of brown sugar every year. As a result, sugarcane was planted on the wasteland and all around the Jinxi River in Lexian County. Brown sugar boiled by sugarcane planted in fertile sandy soil and pure mountain spring water has unique quality and enjoys the reputation of "Oriental Chocolate".
