Computer startup mode

At present, mainboards are mostly set to three startup modes, namely Auto, UEFI and Legacy.

UEFI boot is a new motherboard boot item. Its advantage is that it can improve the startup speed of the computer after booting into the operating system.

The traditional boot mode, now called Legacy, enters the BIOS. In addition to UEFI, there is a legacy mode in the startup item.

In addition to easy startup, UEFI also has the biggest visible feature that UEFI supports graphical operation. Nowadays, many BIOS are graphical interfaces and support mouse operation, which is impossible in traditional BIOS.

When setting startup, BIOS with UEFI also provides startup options for everyone to choose how to start. The meanings of various modes are as follows:

Auto /Both: start automatically according to the order in the list of startup devices, and UEFI mode is preferred;

UEFI only: only devices with UEFI startup conditions are selected for startup;

Legacy only: Only devices with legacy startup conditions are selected for startup.

When switching to legacy in the BIOS using UEFI, it is best to open an option named CSM, which is a compatible module specially set for compatible devices that can only work in Legacy mode and operating systems that do not or cannot fully support UEFI (old graphics cards and old devices).
