Development of domestic water gliders

The research on underwater gliders in China started late. At present, there are five scientific research units studying it, namely Shenyang Institute of Automation, China Academy of Sciences, Institute of Robotics and Automotive Technology, Institute of Oceanography of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University and China Ocean University.

It combines buoyancy drive and propeller propulsion technology, which can not only achieve the same turning and horizontal motion as AUV, but also have the ability of traditional glider profile gliding (that is, zigzag motion).

In the future, China's military enterprises may produce a large number of enlarged petrels. This underwater robot can carry large sensors and detect frogmen, mines and submarines at a longer distance, and China's anti-submarine capability in the South China Sea is expected to jump. In addition, they may even carry weapons to carry out underwater escort or attack missions.
