Long ago, Tujia ancestors lived in caves or under big trees and made a living by hunting and fishing.

In the sky, Zhang Tianwang saw Tujia people living in caves and trees for generations, and their lives were very hard. He wants to lend the temple of the Dragon King in the East China Sea to Tujia people.

Zhang Tianwang said this when he arrived at the Dragon Palace in the East China Sea and met the Dragon King. The dragon king thought, my temple is too big and heavy for you to move. So I agreed.

Zhang Tianwang came to a temple with three legs and two riding legs and lifted it with his hand. When the Dragon King saw it, he regretted not agreeing. I had no choice but to say, "Give it back to me after use." King Zhang Tian said, "I'll pay it back in seven days."

Zhang Tianwang came to Tujia Caotang with a temple and asked Tujia people to imitate a diaojiao building with three columns and two riding (that is, three columns landed and two columns hung).

Seven days later, the Dragon King came to find Zhang Tianwang and returned to the palace. King Zhang Tian said, "If you want it, I will pay you back." When it comes to temples, I throw them by a river and put them on both sides of the river. "Move it yourself!" Knowing that he couldn't move, the Dragon King had to return to the Dragon Palace angrily. From then on, every rainy season, the dragon king will be angry and flood, letting the river wash away the temples on the river. During the flood season, people can't cross the river from the temple. So people put a dragon knife under the bridge, and the dragon never dared to go straight into the temple building again. People not only have houses to live in, but also it is convenient to cross the river.

Diaojiaolou is Tujia people's favorite residence. One end stands on the flat dam and is connected with the flank; Hanging under the ridge of the field is a two-story building. People live upstairs, and livestock pens are set downstairs. Most of the upper three sides have railings, handrails and balconies, which are bright and clean. You can pick flowers and embroider, read and write, receive guests and friends, dry clothes and quilts, and live comfortably and beautifully. It has a history.

According to legend, a long time ago, there was a Tujia farmer and his wife were pulling two children. Every day when my husband comes back from work, he always puts hemp fiber and hat on the steps. Unexpectedly, one morning, hemp fiber and hat were pulled into the corner. It turned out that the dog slept on it all night. In order to prevent this from happening again, they found a big bamboo pole and tied it to the stigma outside the steps with kudzu vine to hang hemp fibers and hats.

Once, my wife was sitting under the eaves knitting linen to mend clothes, and two children kept pestering her, making her unable to make a living. She couldn't get enough of it, so she found some wooden poles and boards and built a platform with bamboo poles, on which hemp fibers and hats were hung. She sat on it, continued to knit linen and mend clothes, and was no longer afraid of children's troubles.

People see this good, and then further develop the platform into housing, and it becomes a diaojiao building.
