China's top 500 manufacturing industries include China's equipment manufacturing industry, China's automobile manufacturing industry, China's textile manufacturing industry, China's iron and steel manufacturing industry, China's petrochemical manufacturing industry, China's food manufacturing industry, China's machinery manufacturing industry, China's home appliance manufacturing industry, China's pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, and China's building materials manufacturing industry, among other industries.

The China Manufacturing 500 is organized by the China Academy of Industrial Economics. The China Institute of Industrial Economics has been organizing research and successfully releasing the "China Manufacturing Top 500 Research Report" for five consecutive years, which has greatly enhanced the attention and support to the manufacturing industry from all walks of life. Premier Wen Jiabao in the government's work report specifically pointed out that "China's manufacturing industry, is the highlight of China's economy, but also an important support point for China's economy, to further strengthen and expand the equipment manufacturing industry, and improve the level of integrated innovation and localization of the equipment manufacturing industry."
